March 20, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team T&D and Team Billand. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

As a side not I just saw on facebook that RA20 gave birth on the Big Island making this their first pup of the year!  So just a reminder RA20 was born 2009 on Kauai to R5AY Honey Girl.   Congratulations to the folks on Big Island for your newest addition!

Team T&D were out today hitting up Kahuku. The only seal they found was R353 resting peacefully.  The bonus of the day they got to see Laysan Albatross chilling in the shade. Seems their parents were off busy somewhere hopefully getting them something to eat.

Team Billand had a busy day. They arrived at the westside beach by 10 am and spotted RG28. They had been looking for him and there he is hanging out with a very fat seal. LOL it's Ka'ale RH32, the two buds were snoozing side by side. RG28 cookie wound is healing, slowing but healing. He got himself a good bite.
.
Team Billand found R3CU on the other side on high rocks, sleeping alone and he would eventually get washed out with the big sets coming in. That was it they did not see him again.
Then Team Billand found RN14 Kalani to the right alone sleeping. He has a new "ding" on his hing flipper.  The sound of the other seals having words caught his attention, so RN14 galumphed over the rocks and slid down the high rocks to the other two.

Well it looks like the party is just beginning.   While watching the
three remaining seals they spot a seal in the shallows. LOL where did he come from?  He was sleeping between the rocks very hidden, finally they spotted the tags and ID'd RW02.  He finally moved out of the area and galumphed to RG28 and Ka'ale where they have been arguing.
Seems something might have spooked RW02, he spewed about 2 times and took off, not to be seen for the rest of the day.

Next to be seen was Kekoa RK72 foraging offshore doing 7 minute dives. He came in hauled up on high rocks, later relocated to lower rocks to avoid the high surf.

Okay so Team Billand once again came across Oahu's newest visitor U/F.  NOAA is now identifying her as TEMP 400. They can not find any information on where she is from or that she has been seen on the the main islands, so for the time being she is TEMP 400.  She was on shore today alone and very sandy, which made it hard to get good pictures of her markings.  It will be fun to keep track of her, seems like she is making her way around  Oahu.
