March 6, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Team T&D (Tammy and Dave).

Team T&D checked out Turtle Bay today, they first happen upon a little green critter resting peacefully.  They were able to ID RK80, little female born last year to R5AY.
They walked the area looking for seals and checking out the albatross conditions were overcast and very windy. On their way out they were happy to find R353.

Team Billand spent the early morning out at plains waiting for a critter to turn up, but no one came to play, so Team Billand headed to one of the west side beaches at 9:30. Just as they arrived the saw a volunteer on their way out and sure enough there was a seal on site. The tide was extremely low so all the rocks were exposed and there was Ka'ale RH32 resting by himself. He is looking very fat and appears to be in good health.

Onward and upward Team Billand headed over to the next westside beach at 10 am. They found RN14 alone already hauled out on the rocks. He must have been there for a bit since he was dry and his applied bleach was visible.

They spotted a seal foraging doing 7 minute dives then it came in to the left to high rocks. They ID'd RIP RR70 who remained there all day.
While focusing on RIP, Team Billand then noticed a seal mid way on the rocks, she kept turning her head and there was another seal coming in. Turns out the female on the rocks was Lei Ola RH48 and the seal approaching was Kawena RH36.
Kawena popped up by her annoying Lei Ola, who responded by just putting her fore flipper in her face like "talk to the hand".  Kawena didn't give in and kept bugging Lei Ola, (hmmm she must be learning Kaale's bad habits). Lei Ola charged at her fast and hard, and finally that gave Kawena the message.  The end result Kawena just went to sleep right by Lei Ola, all was calm.

At 3:15 when Team Billand came back to the site to check on the gang, to their surprise there was another seal. Turns out to be R3CU ID'd by his cookie scar on butt and tag.  While observing the seal Team Billand noticed a brush fire breaking out and spreading fast. Fire trucks and sirens were loud that even R3CU turned to look.  Team Billand left before the roads were shut down.  All five critters were still at the site, Kawena, Lei Ola, RN14, RIP, and R3CU.

Just before making their last stop Team Billand had stopped off at another west side beach. They spoke to some of the locals they have known for years. They let Team Billand know of a seal by the condos. They found a seal on shore with two signs up. It was da Benny RE74 resting. He is looking quite plump. Benny had a couple of fans admiring him wanting to give him a hug, but they were respectful of the signs.

Lastly Team Billand got a picture of DLNR flying by on the water front.
