4/22/2018 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn, Canadian Posse Team D&T, and Tammy was solo today.

Marilyn met up with Team Darlene & Todd today at Makai Pier. This was the first opportunity they had to catch up and Team D&T got to see Mystery Mom and PO1, as well as the unknown male sub-adult.  Interesting this male continues to be so close to Mom and Pup without any reaction from Mom.

Darlene & Todd had a good seal today, beyond seeing the Rabbit Island critters they were able to see Buster hanging out at Sandys.  Good to have Buster back in the neighborhood.

Tammy headed out to Ka'ena Point solo today. She got to see some of the albatross chicks and just a glimpse of two seals in the pool squabbling in the outer pool. She was unable to get an ID, they continued to fight and headed out to deeper water. One of them might of had a CC scar on the back.

Team Billand out at the crack of dawn on a Leeward Beach spotted a seal coming into the area. They were able to ID RW02 PvKauai.  They only stayed a short time but did stop through out the day at least two more times. He remained there alone between the rocks, snoozing in peace.

Next stop just a little way down the road to see if there were any critters hanging out at the outfall. Unfortunately there was, they saw Ka'ale RH32 speeding in like there was an emergency. And then here come RN14 Kalani coming doing his perimeter survey.  The fishermen that were there today were not as nice as yesterdays' group.  They were yelling at the seals, and lots of not so nice things.
At one point Ka'ale came by one of the guys, but RN14 came over and started fighting right on front
of the guys. Almost like RN14 was trying to get Ka'ale to move away, but little butt head stayed in spite of being yelled at by the fishermen.  Ka'ale continued to dive right in the mid of the outfall and comes up with something, but they can't see what he has. Finally  they saw the seals swim out toward the beach side away from the outfall.
Team Billand left and made an afternoon check when they found three critters relaxing together quietly. Ka'ale to the left and da Benny RE74 to Ka'ale.  RN14 Kalani was to the right of them sleeping away.

In between checks at the Leeward Beach, they headed to a beach on the west side, and spotted two seals. They were together vocalizing it was RL42 trying to get away from RIP RR70.  When she would try to move her would hold her with his flipper, so she gave him a couple of round house kicks. You go girl!  Rip managed to block one of the hits. Team Billand didn't stay long since the beaches were crowded today, so they left to keep them safe.
