June 30, 2025 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:45 to 2:45 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
Initially one Mom and Pup pair M&P1 were in the LPB surge channel. Later the second Mom and Pup pair M&P2 hauled out right nect to M&P1. Marilyn didn't know which pair was which. She thinks that M&P1 might be RL12 & PO12, but can't say for sure. The M&P pairs were so close to each other the pups could easily have gotten switched. Marilyn think that mom 2 vocalized but probably for her pup.
At 1:36 pm, Marilyn noticed that one of the weaners had hauled out on the rocks on the Lanikai side of the Middle Cliff beach. Marilyn was able to determine the weaner was RU24: weaner size, shape and coloration and two red tags.
Marilyn first saw RU38 at 1:59 pm in the SRI channel. A short time later the weaner hauled out of the channel onto the rocks. Fortunately she got a good view of the weaner's ventral and was able to determine that it was a female. RU38 seems to have a light outie umbilicus. Later the weaner moved back into the channel.

Team R&B were happy to find a seal at Kahe. It was RL20 Kalua alone resting on the rocks. They didn't see any other seals foraging out there today.  The water was dark but they did spot a turtle. Then to add the icing on the cake they spotted a boobie fishing. They were able to get a great shot if it in flight.

They found one other seal at cliffs. They were grateful to see RP30 Puka alone and resting. He is looking very green. They didn't stay since the skies opened up and it started to pour.

June 29. 2025 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:35 to 3:15 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
When Marilyn first arrived she found RL12 Aukai and PO12 was behind her, near the LPB surge channel. Later Marilyn did view a nursing session.
At 1:51 pm, RH76 Kala and PO11 hauled out of the LPB surge channel. Both look good and Marilyn did see the pup nurse. Later PO11 moved behind mom.
About 50 feet on the Lanikai side of the 2BS was weaner RU24. He showed his male belly with his mouth open. Marilyn never knowingly saw weaner RU38 today.
At 1:49 pm, Marilyn saw that RK37 Hali'a had hauled out on the rock flats next to the SRI channel. At 3:11 pm saw that she had hauled out on the beach. RL37 is adult size, has a new coat and showed her lower left nb.
Around 2 pm Marilyn saw outrigger canoes with sails crossing from Makapuu Point towards Waimanalo between the shore and Rabbit
Island. Also she saw the Outrigger Canoe Club, Maui Jim's, Outrigger Kaanapali, Hui Nalu, Kona Brewing and several others.

This morning Team R&B spotted the dolphins way out doing their thing. They did notice some of them had trackers.

Then they spotted from afar two seals in the water by tracks. They couldn't tell who they were one was adult size and lots of green.
One of the hauled out so they hurried over to get an ID. They were happy to see it was RP28 Wakea resting on shore. There were folks out and about but he was resting peacefully.
On their way back to the car they spotted another seal resting on the sand.
It took them a bit to get to it, not to mention the area isn't the safest place on the west side. Finally they were able to see the seal was an Adult Female and she is molting. They couldn't see tags, and their viewed was obscured by the trees and grass. She was reported as and Unknown Female.

June 28, 2025 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:44 am to 3:01 pm and there were six seals seen during that time.
Initially there was just RL12 Aukai and PO12 on LPB not far from the surge channel. Marilyn was able to RL12's two rear flipper tags and a scar on top of her head. She saw PO12 nurse for a good long while.
At 1:10 pm Kala RH76 and PO11 hauled out from the LPB surge channel. Mom and pup seem healthy. Marilyn did see one nursing session. Later PO11 headed up shore and behind RL12 and her pup. Soon  RH76 moved up to her pup. The moms looked at each other, but there were no interactions.
About 12:40 pm, Marilyn spotted one of the weaners playing in the tide pools between 3BS and SRI. At 2:26 pm, the weaner hauled out of the SRI channel and went into snooze mode. Marilyn never saw the ventral of the weaner so she couldn't determine if it was RU24 or RH38. Only one weaner was seen today.
At 1:28 pm, RK37 Hali'a hauled out on the rocks on the Makapuu side of the SRI channel, just as she has done for the past two days. At 2:44 pm, Marilyn saw that RK37 had left her original spot and at 2:53 pm she hauled out on the 1BS side of LPB. That is when Marilyn could see her two red tags and her lower left side nb which confirmed her ID.

Team R&B started their day with a frustrating situation. While watching the dolphins there were boaters out, towing people in a rubber rafter through the area where the dolphins were. The lifeguards had announced several times to keep their distance from the dolphins.  Needless to say its frustrating, and upsetting to see this happen and their ignoring the warnings.

From afar they spotted a sub-adult seal on shore at tracks. The seal was resting, but there were people stopping and checking the seal out.

Team R&B weren't able to get over to the area as parking was a nightmare today. The seal was reported as an unknown sub-adult since they could make an ID.

Finally they spotted a seal at Kahe from afar. They headed over to the area and found RL20 Kalua. HE was snoozing in his pond with a sea urchin around him.
