May 8, 2025 Thursday's Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B๐Ÿ’•

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 2:15 pm and there  were six seals during that time.
Again on LPB were MO3 and PO3. They snoozed during the first part of the viewing session, then PO3 nursed for a while and then PO3 headed to the water, returned to Mom and they both entered the water about 2 pm. Marilyn did not see them again. PO3 seems to be doing well and putting on weight.
Between 3BS and SRI were three seals:
Adult Male: adult size, darker coat with dark male belly with a lighter patch near the umbilicus; unsure about tags. He was initially about 30 feet away from RF34 Pua and her pup PO4. Later Pua started to move up the beach and then charged the AM. They had a brief scuffle and the AM moved away.
For the first part of the viewing session, PO4 was again hidden behind Pua. Later Marilyn was able to see its head behind her. After they moved up the beach and had the interaction with the AM, the pup
finally nursed where Marilyn had a better view. Both mom and pup look good.
On the shore side of the RRB channel was a Juvenile Male: long juvenile size, light yellow male belly and two red tags. The JM seemed long and thin, but that may just be its position.

Team R&B arrived at pokai and spotted a fat female foraging. They ID'd Kala RH76 pigging out and doing 6 minute dives. They hung out for two hours hoping she would haul out, but she did not.
While watching RH76 they spotted another seal foraging off the jetty. It was R3CX Nalu foraging mostly in the open ocean. It got windy which made keeping track of him more difficult. He never hauled out.

Next they found one seal at Kahe. Seems only RP30 Puka was hauled out resting alone on the rocks. They hung out waiting to see if any other seals would show up, but he was it.  RP30 was very alert to all the people around and then he went back to snoozing.
They spotted dolphins but they were too far out to capture.  But they were able to get a pic of a cute turtle making its way through the water.
