Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:20 to 2:00 pm and there were three seals seen on island during that time.
When she first arrived there was only one seal visible. This turned out to be RL08 "BamBam Squarepants". He was on the rocks on the RRB side of the SRI channel. Marilyn could see that it was an adult male, but didn't confirm his identity until later when he hauled out of the SRI channel. Then she could see his numerous CC scars on his left shoulder, right shoulder, mid right dorsal and his abscess on the right rear side that is fringed in green. Marilyn thinks there might be a hook on the left side of RL08's mouth.
Weaner PO3 was seen frolicking in the nearshore tide pool down from 3BS. With the rising tide, PO3 hauled out and ultimately showed off his light male belly.
At 12:54 pm, Marilyn saw was turned out to be a weaned PO4 on the rock flats a short distance from RL08. Today is 45 days since she was born and is now a weaner. She almost immediately rolled over and showed off her light female belly for the rest of Marilyn's viewing session.
Team R&B got a text about a seal on the rocks at Maili. They headed over and found R617 resting at the inlet. It was especially nice that his N70 applied bleach was visible!
Next they found a seal at cliffs. What is especially interesting is for that last year they had noticed a little patch of sand that they thought would be a good place for a seal to rest. Well to their joy today they found RG32 resting alone in this spot. They noted the scar over his right eye.
Later in the day on their way home they rechecked and he was still there but further up hiding in the rocks.
They stopped at yoks and spotted an adult seal resting comfortably on shore. They saw two red tags but they were dirty and hard to read. They noted a ding on its back and initially didn't know if it was a male or female.
After an hour of not moving, Team R&B walked back to the car and from afar they noticed the seal had an applied bleach N16. They checked in with the posse and determined it was RW02 PvKauai.
Then of course they had to stop and watch the dolphins do what they do best. Having Fun!
