Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:28 to 2:16 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.
Near the waterline on the middle of LPB was an adult male, who Marilyn believes to be RK24 Bruno: adult size, tan male belly, two red tags, and a scar on lower lip. He seems to be spending lots of time on Rabbit Island. He hardly changed position while Marilyn was watching.
Between 3BS and SRI was a Sub-adult Female: small sub-adult to large juvenile size, older coat, two red tags and a tannish-gray female belly. At one point she seemed afraid of a Sooty Tern chick who was flopping around near her.
There seems to be at least three pairs of Masked Boobies on the outside crater rim. Marilyn believes at least one of the adults is nesting.
Team R&B got a text of a seal sleeping at pokai. They were taking care of some work at their home, but managed to take a break and head over to see who it was.
The beaches were packed with people, especially since the Hokuleia was out there for a couple of days.
They weren't permitted at the top area due to the a group of Hawaiian Chanters being filmed.
In the end they did manage to see RH76 Kala sleeping way to the left, on the edge of the rocks.
While out they made another couple of stops. They were thrilled and relieved when they found RN14 Kalani. They haven't seen him in quite awhile so this was very special. They noted he looks a little thinner than usual, and he is fully molted with a handsome new coat. His natural bleach ball on his tight side was so visible, no tags seen at all. The scar on the right side of his head is a good marker.
He seemed alert, looking around the area. Maybe he was looking for another seal, or maybe it was someone who had been in the area.
Next at the outfall they spotted a seal foraging amongst the crowd of beach goers. It was difficult to keep finding the seal, they were only able to get a couple of photos. That was enough for them to see it was RL20 Kalua foraging.
The last part of their journey today they spotted another seal, but unfortunately this adult female was very good at hiding.
They studied her for a long time, but she didn't move. They didn't see any tags, and she seems very plump, perhaps pregnant. They were hoping it was RL70 but they could not be sure. They reported her as an Unknown Adult Female.
