In yesterday's news Tammy met up with Lesley and they headed out to the point. Their first find was RG40 Holokai resting on the rocks. Good to see him looking good and healthy.
Then there were three seals out at the point; R420 Kaipo sleeping in the water, R330 Squinty snoozing half way in the water and on the coral. Lastly there was RN04 Kainoa hidden on the rocks.
Lesley and Tammy also checked on the albatross chicks. They are getting big enough to walk away from their nests.
And to just put the icing on the cake they also watched the whales put on a show.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:58 to 2:40 pm and there were three seals seen during that time.
About 60 feet Makapuu side of the 3BS was an Adult Male: small adult size, two red tags, older coat and male belly often coated with dark sand.
On the rock flats on the Lanikai side of SRI was Adult Female 1: hefty adult size, mottled brownish gray female belly and two red tags.
Adult Female 2: started out behind waterfront rocks on the Makapuu side of SRI. She later moved near SRI and then up onto the beach. At that point AF1 moved up onto the beach off the rock flats and met up with AF2. They were near each other for the rest of the time. AF2 had a sand-covered female belly and two red tags.
Team R&B's first stop they spotted two seals on shore high up by the parking lot. One was a male resting higher up than the other which was a female.
They studied both of them for a long time to try and make an ID. They actually spent more time once they got home going over the photos.
They believe the female is R604, no tags and has cc scars. The male had tags they think might be R3CX Nalu. (Hopefully they will get confirmation from their report)
They weren't having much luck finding any more seals. They backed tracked one more time and it paid off. They were over the moon when they found the lovely Miss Leina RL70. Her tag and white nails were showing. She is looking quite plump. She may have just landed as she was alert and there was a guy walking right by her. They don't get to see her very often, so this was a great way to end their day.
