09/05/2020 Saturday STAY-HOME Monk Seal Dailies

Marilyn  viewed Rabbit Island from Makai Pier from 11:35 am to 2:05 pm.  Initially there were six critters on island and number 7 showed up later.

Toward the back and left of LPB were:
Seal 1 - Unknown Adult Female - large adult size, older coat, female belly, a nb on her right rear side.  This may be R016 Right Spot. The seal was large, but Marilyn was not sure about whether she is pregnant: the birth prediction for RS this year is 10/1/20.
Seal 2 - Unknown Adult Male - large size, newer coat, dark male belly with a possible small nb near the umbilicus or penial hole. Stayed in close proximity to Seal 1 (UAF).

Initially near the front of LPB were:
Seal 3 - Adult male, probably RG32 - old coat, dark mottled male belly, 2 tags.  This seal entered the

water at 11:45 am and tried to visit Seals 1 and 2 and then hauled out behind rock flats at LPB.  At one point Seal 2 galumphed towards him and he entered the water.
Seal 4 - Unidentified Juvenile Male - new coat, light male belly, 2 tags, probably yearling size.  This could be  RL47 Kamakana, RB12 Sadie's pup from 2019.

In the right middle cliff area and initially behind waterfront rocks was:
Seal 5 - Weaner size, light female belly I think, no tags and no applied bleach. I think this is PO5 Makanalani.

Clear at the Makapuu end of Rocky Right Beach was:
Seal 6 - Weaner size, light yellow belly, not sure of sex and no tags or applied bleach seen. This is probably PO1 or PO3.

At 1:10 pm, Seal 7 - N2 Nohea hauled out at the back of LPB near Seals 1 and 2.  Weaner size, applied N2 bleach and no tags.  She eventually moved up behind the UAF and went into snooze mode.

On the west side Aukai RL12 was seen foraging off shore.  A couple of fishermen reported there had been a laynet and two seals eating off the net. The guys let the netters know how wrong it was to leave the net overnight.  (BIG MAHALOS to them)
Meanwhile Aukai was foraging doing 5 minute dives between the divers and swimmers.

R3CX Nalu was to the right of seal inlet way out on the rocks snoozing.
RL70 Leina was hidden in the rocks as usual, at first you could only see a little part of her green body.  She finally moved and her three white nails on fore flipper and scar on her face.  She pretty much keeps to herself and hasn't interacted with any other seals.

Last but not least RN14 Kalani was seen on the west side on the rocks. He moved in with the incoming surf. He is fat green and was on his own.
