09/20/2020 Sunday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Team Billand and Team T&D.

Team T&D were on the northshore today and they came across K80 who is looking quite beautiful in her new coat.

Marilyn Rabbit Island from about 11:05 am to 2:00 pm. Initially there were 3 HMS on RI.

Near the 1BS was:

RK37 Huia - juvenile size, new coat, light female belly, 2 tags and a natural bleach on her lower rear left side. She was later visited by and Unknown Adult Male. More about this later.

Among the waterfront rocks near 3BS was:
Unknown Weaner - weaner size, no tags, never got a full view of the belly, but there appeared to be a tinge of green near the rear flippers. It could be PO1 or PO3.

Near SRI was:
Unknown Juvenile Male (UJM) - juvenile size, new coat, light male belly and 2 tags.

At about 12:52, Marilyn noticed that an adult seal had joined the UJM. The adult stayed for only a few minutes and then left via SRI.
At 1:03, Marilyn saw what she assumed was the same seal hauling out to RK37. He ultimately showed his male belly so it's an unidentified adult male (UAM).

Team Billand started their long day with Ka'ale at the outfall stealing fish.  After a couple of hours Ka'ale hauled out at electric beach by a rubber raft.  He is very interested in the raft checking it out, maybe he thought it was another seal.  Team Billand noted that Ka'ale has started his molt.
Ka'ale galumphed to the water, rolled over and then left to join da Benny at another nearby beach.
Benny and Ka'ale had words while people were running up to take pictures. Benny left and Ka'ale moved higher up on shore. One kid stood in front of him, Ka'ale barked at him and the kid ran off.

Benny was looking very sandy and it took a bit to ID him. There were a couple of women walked up to him and the lifeguards whistled to warn them. Team Billand called it into the hotline.

At 12:30 Team Billand checked another west side location and found Kekoa Alii RK72 snoozing on lower rocks.
RL70 Leina was visible on the rocks and her molt is progressing. She was in a tiny water hole and flipped over to show off her white belly.
RL20 Kalua was sleeping in the inland rocks close to Leina RL70. Because of his position they could not see his wound. He was so comfortable in his rocks that he pooped and stayed in it.... that's what they do.
While observing they hear another seal snorting coming into the area. It's Benny he is on the move today. He is very green and his facial scars were visible. He hauled up and went right to sleep. Better spot for him to get rest.
