01/07/2020 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and HMSPO volunteer Diane S.
Lesley's complete update is part 2 of the dailies.

HMSPO volunteer brings news from yesterday of Da Benny being back on island!  This makes many of us old timers happy that the old boy has returned from his travels.  Thank you Diane! Diane got word from Melody of a seal hauled out at KoOlina so she responded to go and do some outreach. For Diane S this was her first solo call and making an ID. Benny did not make it easy for her but she did manage to get his tags to positively ID Da Benny( RE74 E43).  Dana arrived on site and confirmed Benny's ID.

If you been following along you know Team Billand has been having some incredible busy seal sighting days, and today was another. I do want mention that I made an error and forgot to include RL198 and RL42 yesterday.

This morning before 9 am Team Billand found the lovely Lei Ola RH48 hauled out at a westside location. Her tags were visible, she is looking healthy and getting to be a big girl.
RW02 PvKauai was way up in the mid high rock, pretty much hidden, but Team Billand was still able to get the tag shot.
R3CX was with RIP RR70 on mid rock.
While observing everyone they heard some critters and when they went to look there were two BIG seals coming in, Kekoa Alii RK72 with RH76 Kala. They are looking big, beautiful and hauled in on front water rocks again. They remained there all day with no drama.

Then Team Billand spotted a small seal, looking a little lost. They watched closely and ID'd RL20 Kalua. He came from the left end, galumphed all the way to lower rocks where there was another seal.  He tried really hard to get up on the rocks and when he did had a hard time moving to another spot. At this time Lei Ola spotted him. Finally the little guy made it up and was with Lei Ola.
He went up to her and sniffed her face, she in turn snorted and sneezed at him.  This happened a couple of times. Finally he just pulled away and went to sleep, where they remained together.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena West Trek and spotted Ka'ena RO40 on the rocks.
Further in they found RL42 Leia resting on the ledge down the cliff. It was a bit of a challenge to get the ID for confirmation, but Team Billand is persistent. She was in a good spot well hidden.
