01/03/2020 Friday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

Team Billand arrived at the outfall about 7 am. They watched a seal forage doing four minute dives in and out of the outfall. They were able to determine RN14 Kalani who then landed on the rocks.

Just before they left the outfall Team Billand noticed another seal foraging to the right of the Jetty. They tried but were unable to get an ID. The critter would not stay up long enough for them to get any clues.  They did see a school of Akule jumping for dear life and the seal was chasing after them.

After leaving the outfall Team Billand headed over to a west side location. There are three seals on site. The big male just going up on the rocks was Kekoa Alii. The scar on the right side of his face was visible. He was getting hit by big waves and would relocate to the right and next to RIP RR70.
RIP was to the right, resting on the rocks, being very still. He was looking very large and healthy.

Then there was R3CX in the middle of RIP and Kekoa. The markers were visible and bleach on left side of head, scar on left shoulder. He would later move to RIP and greet him with a kiss, then over to Kekoa and later moved back to his original spot. The boy was showing his elders some respect.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena west trek and came up empty. When they returned they went back to the west side to check on the boys. Another critter had joined the three. It was Ka'ale RH32 hauled out on lower rocks snoozing. Seems the trouble maker was on his best behavior.
