01/23/2020 Thursday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley, posse pal Vicki and Melody. Lesley's Ka'ena point update is part two of the dailies.

Just before 8 am Team Billand found Kawena RH36 hauled out at a beach near the outfall.  She was up on rocks to the right on their first visit. Her hind flippers are a little "bitten" up. Barbara had noticed it last week, and she seems to be healing just fine.  On their second visit Kawena was being visited by a couple having a "photo" session. If only the seals could talk!

At 10:30 Team Billand arrived at a west side location and found Kekoa RK72 on lower rocks resting and dry, indicating he had been there for a while.
Just coming in was RG28 Lefty and he hauled out by Kekoa. They had a stare down, but the two boys respected each others space.

Next up was R3CU came in looking for a space, he galumphed on the lower rocks with the boys. Then RG28 Lefty went up tp him as he came up on lower rocks. RL20 Kalua was there and didn't care care, passed by the big boys.  There was a very sweet interaction between the three. Meanwhile Kekoa was in the waterhole snoozing.
Later R3CU and G28 had some fun playing and hugging. Very cool to observe.

While Barb was hanging out with the gang, Robert headed off and he came across RW02 PvKauai. There was a volunteer on site, so Robert made the ID and left. Later Team Billand drove by and he was still there.

Posse Pal Vicki was on the north shore and her only find today was RG40 Holokai. Mr. reliable came through so Ms Vicki wasn't skunked.

Melody got a call about 11 am from security that a seal hauled out
at Iroquois and they were putting signs up.  Melody headed over and immediately noticed it was a smaller seal (not our Rocky) and it had tags. Someone on site said the seal had hauled out about 30 minutes before.
There was a volunteer on site who lives in the area, which makes it very convenient.  Melody got some photos of her tag RH92 Nalani.  Melody called the hotline and volunteer Erin and Melody stayed and did some outreach.
Nalani got a few good hours sleep until the F-22 Raptors flew overhead and she took off for the water.
