2/27/2016 DBs Dailies:Kea,Kainoa,RG32@Rabbit Island, RG32@Makai Pier, Kaiwi@Spitting Cave, Nihoa@Pokai Bay, RIP,RW02,Squinty(R330)@Ka'ena Point, R8HY@Birth Beach, Mokuleia, Benny@White Plains, Rocky@Ewa Beach

I got to Makai Pier at 0840 but initially found nobody, but a gazillion Sooty Terns flying near Rabbit Island. Nobody has landed yet, but they are definitely back.

I noticed something up in the high grass behind Seal Rock Inlet, on Rabbit Island, at 0921. The animal would later move down and prove to be Kea (RN46).

At 0937, what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04) hauled out fronting 3BS.

At 1024 another animal came out of the high grass, 40 ft right of 3BS, and moved down. It was “Greenie”, the unknown, very green , juvenile female.

At 1015 the fishermen/security at the pier yelled to tell me there was a seal in the lagoon behind the building. I raced out with camera got 3 shots of a small swimming head just heading for the breakwater and out to deeper water. I thought at the moment that it could only be RG32, but the size, but of course I couldn’t prove it. At 1044 RG32 hauled out to Rabbit Island to join Kainoa. I rest my case !

Whale posse member Stephanie Batzer texted that there was an animal at Spitting Cave , at 0950 (there had been nobody on my earlier check). Gayle called at 1037 to confirm that it was Kaiwi (RK96) ,once again doing 13 minute dives.

At 0738 Team Billand reported a Dana call about somebody at Pokai Bay. They would later confirm the Nihoa (R912) ID. She departed at an unknown time. Mahalos to Pattie & Nalani.

Posse member Tammy T., was at Ka’ena Point bright and early, and found RIP (RR70) on the back beach, and RW02 at the Main Pool.

Marilyn & Philomene also did the End of the World trek today. They too saw RIP on the Back Beach, but RW02 was no longer there. Their journey had actually begun at the Birth Beach at Mokuleia, before beginning the trek to the point. They found an animal at the Birth Beach that they could not initially ID, however on the way out they confirmed the animal as a Kauai visitor, R8HY. He has been MIA over there for a while and there were rumors that he was on Oahu, however today is the first documented sighting.

At the point, in addition to RIP on the Back Beach, they also watched what would prove to be Squinty (R330) swim into the Main Pool and haul out. He was last documented at Ka’ena Point on Sept.5th of 2015. He has returned from Kauai and is sporting a new left side V7 bleach.

Team Billand reported Benny (RE74) at the fence line , White Plains at 0850. He decided to relocate to the Snack Bar at 1725, amidst the weekend Adoring Hordes ! Mahalos to Kathy&Bev.

The Billands responded to a call about an animal at Ewa Beach Park. They called to confirm the Rocky (RH58) ID at 1727. Mahalos to Michelle.
