2/2/2015 DB's Dailies: Kaiwi,RM38&U/U@RI, Kea@BH, Pohaku&Haupu@PC

At 0700 I found an overnighted Kea (RN46) in the Blowhole Cove, on the Sandy Beach side. He has remained all day. Posse member Mel, called at 1529 to advise that people removed and throw one sign on the rocks, and turned the other one around down in the cove. A roving Lifeguard lieutenant had run them off with his bullhorn. It was too sketchy, tide wise to do anything, but I’ll take care of it in the morning. Anyone spending two seconds on a rope line knows that our fellow man, in many cases, leaves much to be desired. This is yet another example. Kea was still there and still in snooze mode, though the tide was at his hind flippers. Kea remained at dark.

At 0803 on my first look at Rabbit Island, I found what would prove to be Kaiwi (RK96), along with another , probable juvenile which I was never able to ID, at the log, 40 ft left of 1BS on RI, and what turned out to be RM38, 50 ft right of 1BS. It was a difficult day at Makai Pier, with SW winds that my trusty anemometer told me where 30-35 mph , SW winds, with many gusts to 45 mph. To use highly technical weather jargon.... it was Crankin’!!!

On a routine pan at 1115 I found what would prove to be Kainoa (RN04),80 ft right of 3BS on RI.

Team Billand checked in at 0800 with the report of both Pohaku (RO28) & Haupu (RB24) together at Paradise Cove. Mahalos to Charlene for the help.
