10/3/2014 Ka'ena Point Monitoring

Kimo L. and I just came back from our  Ka'ena Pt monitoring hike.
We had 6 sightings for 4 seals.
We found RN58 "Luana" just hauled out @ 10minute beach. She went back into the water after being IDed and swam towards Mokuleia side
We then found RO40 "Ka'ena" in his pool, after a while watching the waves washing into the pool I saw a bump at the entrance of the pool.
RW02 "Kauai" swam in, circled the pool and came over to pester RO40 "Ka'ena". This one must have said "get out" in seal language cause we saw RW02 "Kauai" gallumph backwards really fast. Very entertaining to watch them.
We went and check the point, their were no seals so we to cool off in the water.
On our way back RO40 "Ka'ena" was alone in his pool. We spotted RW02 "Kauai" hauled out in a tide pool past Ka'ena's pool.
Our seal monitoring was interrupted by some sky action. A chopper was doing some touch and go, sending men up and down from the top bunker.
Back on our way  we found a freshly hauled out RK36 "Kauai Kolohe" @ Hidden Beach and did some outreach with beach goers.
Kimo came up to the house and I went down to check Birth Beach, and there she was, RN58 "Luana" sleeping sandwiched among big rocks.
HOTLINE & V/C Dana were informed. No SPZ or signs we're needed.
Photos will follow tonite or tomorrow.  Aloha, Lesley
