In yesterdays' news, I also got an email from posse pal Cheryl who was visiting for the day. She was out at Kahe and spotted two seals, which seem to be the same two unknown adults that Team R&B spotted.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island yesterday (Sunday) and there were no seals seen during her observation. But today she viewed RabbitIsland from 12:25 to 2:25 pm and there were two seals seen during that time.
Initially alone near the waterline down from the 1BS was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, yellowish-tan female belly and two red tags. She was joined by an Adult Male at 1:45 pm.
Initially between 3BS and SRI was an Adult Male: adult size, tannish gray male belly, unsure about tags, scar on lower lip. Marilyn realized he had disappeared at 1:38 pm and she believes he is the same A/M that joined the S/F.
Team R&B were at Kahe today where they found RM31 Kai. As they were photographing him they noticed something shine on the corner of his mouth. Sure enough there was hook, no trailing line at all, just the loop of the hook seen. RM31 seems okay, he was snoozing. They spoke to volunteer Tiffany who was in the area at that time. She followed up with the hotline.
They made it out to Nimitz late in the say, but they were happy to find two seals were on the reef in snooze mode. It was Kalani RN14 and R407 Kawika to the left. Team R&B noted there were dog prints on shore, and heard there had been three dogs out loose before they arrived.
Team R&B decided to check back at Kahe. RM31 Kai had company, it took them a little bit to ID the seal. They determined it was R617, looking huge, no tags, ding on mid back area and scar on the right side of his face. There was no interaction between the two, they were snooze mode.
They didn't see any other seals but did enjoy the show the dolphins put on. They were jumping like crazy, sometimes so high three at a time.
