1/8/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: R5AY Honey Girl, RI37 Ipo, RW02 PvKauai, RK72 Kekoa, RW22 Kolohe, RN14, RK36 Kauai Kolohe, and R016 Right Spot

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Posse Pal Gayle.  In the yesterday news department we have some photos of Honey Girl and Ipo from photographer Melody.  Also in a followup to yesterday's photo of the seal at magic island it was confirmed by Tracy (PIFSC) that it is in fact Rocky RH58.

I'll start with yesterday's news from Melody. She and some friends were on the road and stopped by Hauula and were I am sure delighted to find R5AY Honey Girl, and daughter RI37 Ipo.  They decided to hang out with the volunteer that was on site. Unfortunately there were two incidents with the same dog going into the SRA and bothering the seals. First the dog approached Ipo and she reacted by vocalizing and eventually leaving about 15 minutes later.
Honey Girl stuck around but about 30 minutes later same pooch came along with the same owner and got a little too close. The situation was unfortunate that the owner wasn't interested in controlling the dog.  Authorities were called and responded.  Thank you Melody for sharing your story and your photos.

Team Billand started off by finding RW02 PvKauai at Puka Pants once again. He appears to have spent the night. There were lots of trails and wallows. The hotline was informed and they were told someone was responding. When they returned a volunteer was on site, but later in the afternoon there wasn't anyone on site, except for some folks with cameras taking photos. Robert spent a little time talking with them.

While Team Billand was checking Maili they didn't see any seal, nor hear any snorts. As they were leaving a seal popped out of the water onto the rocks.  It was Kekoa Alii RK72, alone.  I know Team Billand have been watching this guy since he was a wee pup ( me too) so it's nice seeing grow him grow up into a handsome guy.

On their next check there was another seal up on the rocks with Kekoa, upon closer look they were able to ID RW22 Kolohe. He is looking mighty handsome with his new coat and cue ball showing.  Kolohe was to the right of Kekoa.

Then on their last check of Maili there is another seal, it would prove to be RN14. He is very brown when his coat is completely dry. He was alone on mid rock and ID'd from his tag.

Team Billand had check Nanikai Beach through out the day and came up empty. Of course that final check they found a seal up by the rocks sound a sleep.  RK36 (Kauai Kolohe) ID'd by his cookie cutter shark bite scar.

This afternoon posse pal Gayle found Right Spot at Alan Davis. Gayle noted "something" on her right shoulder possibly a tiny wound. There was no sign of bleeding. PIFSC was notified.
