1/4/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1) Benny RE74, RW02 PvKauai, Kekoa RK72, RN14, Kolohe RW22, RK36 Kauai Kolohe, RL42,

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Team T&D, Gayle and Lesley.  Lesley's full update is part 2 of the dailies.  Also you'll see Team T&D and Lesley crossed paths!  We also have a special addition with an update from our PAL VAL!

Team Billand arrived at KoOlina at 6:15am and found Benny RE74 by his naupaka bush. They called the hotline. Team Billand stayed until 8:15 when volunteer Karen arrived. (Barb the Hokulea is suppose to be there this week, did you see it?)

Next stop Maili Team Billand found RW02 PvKauai on rocks to the right. He looks good no new markings and his tag showing. RK72 Kekoa was way up where Lei Ola usually stays. RN14 was offshore fighting with the other seals, but hauled out. He went to left side of rocks and remained all day.  There was one more critter all the way right almost by RW02. He was on his belly so it was hard to determine who it was. They climbed down a bit and the seal turned over, to their surprise it was RW22 Kolohe. He hadn't been around these parts for quite a while, but there was his infamous cue ball.

Next find for Team Billand RK36 Kauai Kolohe at Guard Rails. They had to go all the way around to get an ID, they got a tag shot with his broken stub and 4 showing. RK36 was near the homeless camp again, which is too bad with so many lose dogs.

Last find for Team Billand was RL42 at Makua Cliffs. Good news is she was well hidden.

Special delivery message for Tutu Barbara Billand from our Seal Pal Val, she found RJ28 <---- Pohaku's little boy. What a cutie!

Team T&D did Ka'ena Point today and crossed paths with Lesley. They found Ka'ena RO40 and R353 on the rocks in the main pool.  I have to share this from Tammy " You know you really love seal because you get excited when you see her poop."  Then R353 decided to put her head in her poop, Ka'ena decided to leave, it was either the smell or he was just disgusted.

Gayle spotted one critter on Rabbit Island today. Also Gayle was happy to see Buster V08 at Sandy Beach. He has a tiny spot of old fur on his back so he is 99.9% molted. He's looking quite handsome in his new suit. Gayle also reported that Buster received a vaccination today and will be due for another in 3-6 weeks.  Also new volunteers Cheryl and Barb (mom & daughter team) were out today looking after Buster. Buster left at 17:15 tonight.

Yep, we took a drive over to the harbor and got a birds eye view of the hokulea. I find it interesting, that the awesome sailing, historcal vessel, doesnt have carvings except for three small ones in the back. We have been following this vessel since 1976, its an honor to see her.

Thanks Val for the RJ28 shots, he is a cutie. Does he still have bleach marks...dont see any, probably resting on them.

Seeing RW22 again just blew my mind...he is one big fellow, with a nice coat, white muzzle, but his tags are shot...what I could see.

Prayers to Kaimana, wish she would leave the hooks alone. And Prayers to RJ16, hang in there boy, keep fighting, SURVIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We been seeing the whales alot more...just love em . Waiting to get a BIG BREACH SHOT, but so far, it aint happening. ITs all about TIMING.
