1/12/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: Kekoa Alii RK72, Kolohe RW22, 1 Rabbit Island Critter Y/N Kauai Kolohe RK36

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Gayle.  In the yesterday's news department I got an email from photographer Melody.

Yesterday we noted RK36 Kauai Kolohe at Nani Kai. Melody was out there at 5:00 pm yesterday and he was still there closer to the water. She was only there for about 15 minutes and managed to get a couple of great shots, including his tag shot 4DJ.

Team Billand was out at Maili they saw a seal come torpedoing into the area looking around and then landing on the rocks. When they did their recheck he was still there in the same spot snoozing.
The second seal came in the area looking, the waves were swooshing him around. He made it in to the rocks and stayed. They ID'd Kekoa Alii RK72. He was there in the same spot on their next check.

Team Billand spotted a critter foraging off Nanakuli doing 6 minute dives. It has a clean coat, adult unknown male or female.  They did not stick around long, but long enough to see this Safron finch admiring itself in their car mirror.

Gayle only spotted one critter at Rabbit Island. But did spot as she called it " 3 lolo heads " at Lanai Lookout. For some reason they strung a line across the water ?? why?? walk? zip? who knows. But HPD Officer Aiu was waiting and watching for them to cross over before calling DLNR.  Now if that isn't excitement I don't know what is !

I was volunteer on shift that day! There were two seals and Melody only saw one! She got really close to seal and even woke it up by talking to it. Not a fitting example of what Monkseal lovers should do! It’s wrong to bother seal just to get the pic !
