11/4/2017 Monk Seal Dailies (part 2) Lesley's Ka'ena Point Update

I went down early to CE Pt to check on 2 seals I had seen from the driveway.
RR70 "Rip" & RW02 "PVKauai" have overnighted. Rip hadn't moved much from when I saw him late afternoon yesterday. "PVKauai" arrived some time after that, his trails were amazing, he must have hauled out somewhere near the concrete slab, galumphed his way up the beach to Naupaka line then North towards bunker which he crossed over, went thru and behind Naupakas coming down this morning towards the beach. From the little he showed us of his molt he should be in the +5%
Just as I arrived he moved further down, "Rip" checked him out with one eye and moved towards him with a word or two. "PVKauai" stopped in his tracks.
Marilyn and Diane arrived, the 3 of us checked Birth Beach before starting our hike out to the point.
In the Main Pool of KPt we found RO40 "Ka'ena" on the reef island and on reefs to the side of the pool R3CU. There was no action.
We did some outreach with visitors and left.
On our way back the girls dropped me off @ CE Pt where I did some outreach with some German visitors, they were all very respectful. I came home and have watched the seals from here.
(Albatross should be coming back soon)

 Ka'ena and R3CU - haven't seen this critter for a while
Ka'ean RO40
he still has that little hook in his lip
