9/26/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Pohaku, RIP, Benny, Lei Ola, Kekoa Alii, Rabbit Island Critters, Right Spot, Buster and Rocky.

Today's Dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Posse Pal Gayle, and Mrs. Whisperer.  Marilyn provided one of DB's quips, made me laugh and well you know, miss his humor just a little more. All and all it's good advice: " Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance" ( the 7 Ps)

Team Billand found Pohaku at 5:45 am all the way up at the Naupaka bushes, snoozing. They set up a zone, spent time educating and called hotline. There were many many kids around today ( day off from school? ) Volunteer arrived at 8 am, Team Billand departed at 9 am.

Their next stop was at Maili where they found RIP (RR70), Benny (RE74), Lei Ola (RH48) and Kekoa Alii (RK72).  (Hopefully I will get this right)

RIP was on the lower rocks alone, Kekoa up on the mid rocks alone.  Benny and Lei Ola were close together on the rocks to the right.  Lei Ola still has a hook, but shows no signs of stress, she's green, fat and fine.  By afternoon Benny was gone and Lei Ola moved to the water hole alone. RIP & Kekoa Alii were together aiming for the water hole they all compete for.

As a side note Team Billand has seen a number of boats and film crew off of electric beach. Barb wasn't sure what it was about, but when I took a closer look it's none other than Hawaii 5-O. It will be fun to see when that episode comes out.

Gayle found Right Spot in the keiki tide pool and that is where she stayed. There were two critters on Rabbit Island, in the morning they were snuggling and being best of friends. As the day went on the smaller one moved over to the right, and by the end of the day the smaller one moved back to be closer to the adult. Who knows maybe they needed a break from one another (it happens).

Mrs. Whisperer, thank you for sharing your DB quote, which is the result of your stopping by Kaimana Beach yesterday morning without your camera or binoculars.  But today you were properly prepared.  Rocky (RH58) has started molting (at about 5%). She had a poop on her hind flippers which must have been smelly for Buster (RV08) whose nose was inches from her flippers. Buster was ID'd by the scar over his left eye, his nubbin of a tag, some of the dark spots on his belly and his distinctive RFF.

 Pohaku (RO28)
