At 5:50 am Team Billand out and about determined Paradise Cove was empty, but Secrets is where Miss Pohaku chose to sleep in this morning. They put up a zone and spent a few hours talking story with some good folks. Barbara saw some rose petals and created a beautiful rendering of a monk seal, it all lasted about 20 minutes when the first breeze. Team Billand left at 8:00 after a volunteer arrived.
Team Billand found RIP RR70 at Maili, they were unable to get a tag shot. While watching over RIP they noticed a "green dome" by the rocks, turns out to be another seal.
Much to their surprise it was RH48 Lei Ola.... the bad news they noticed something dangling from her chin. They were hoping for a sea cucumber but no, it's a hook left side corner of her mouth, the trailing like was very short a couple of inches. Barbara called it into NOAA, first reached Thea sent photos and later spoke to Mark.
NOAA accessed the photos and determined it was NOT life threatening and based on her location on the rocks they would not be taking any immediate action. This is quite common, hopefully in the next few days she will haul out on a sandy beach, in which NOAA Team can take care of the hook.
Posse Pal Gayle spotted two critters on Rabbit Island. One is for sure a weaner and I am going to bet it's Aka. If you are able to enlarge the photo it's pretty cute with the weaner resting it's head on the adult.
Gayle also found Right Spot (R016) at Kaupo Beach, she was last seen on September 10th. Gayle was informed by volunteer that Right Spot departed at 13:00.Gayle's good news find today was Kolohe at Eternity Beach. Last picture of him was from August 26th in a video from our pal Paul. Gayle did some outreach and was able to get some assistance from some folks on the beach. Kolohe departed at 12:45. We hope he doesn't return tomorrow to EB or Lanai lookout.
