October 18, 2025 Saturday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:44 to 1:22 pm and there were four seals seen during that time. There was a lot of moving around which made it confusing.
On the 1BS side of LPB was Adult Male 1: large adult size, old dark coat, about 15% molted on upper chest, male belly, two red tags and scar on right rear side. This might be RK24 Bruno. Marilyn did check notes from last year and he did molt in mid to late October.
Later RQ44 Mahina hauled out near AM1, after she had been trying to avoid AM2.
On the top of the sand berm between 1BS and 2BS there were two seals:
Adult Male 2: smaller adult, old coat with lots of green, male belly and two red tags. He was following RQ44 Mahina along the berm. They both wanted to move down to the water, but the berm was higher than they wanted to traverse.
AM2 ended up in the water with RQ44, then they moved upshore and continued their interaction. RQ44 has a new coat, light gray female belly and three tags.
After a short while, AM2 left RQ44 and joined the Juvenile Male who had been near 3BS. The JM was juvenile size, new coat, light male belly and two red tags. The JM and AM2 interacted, then the AM2 rolled into the water, but hauled out nearby a short time later.
Then all the seals seemed to go into snooze mode.

Team R&B had quite a day trying to make ID's of all the seals foraging. At Pokai they saw two seals, RH48 Lei Ola and R3CX Nalu. But then there was another seal, it looked younger and not as green as R3CX. The seal had a scar on its head like RG32.  They studied the waters forever and then studied their photos. So they have Lei Ola with Nalu, Lei Ola with RG32 and Lei Ola eating a fish.

Over at tracks they spotted three seals foraging/fighting in the water off the outfall and tracks area. There were lots of people in the water
as well.  Team R&B could only determine one seal had a lot of green, one was clean coat and the last one that passed them had a scar on its head right side.

Lastly they found a seal on shore at plains. It was KG89 Huaka'i, she was alone resting on shore. Well there were lots of folks out and about but KG89 was able to get some peaceful rest.
