08/07/2020 Friday Act-With-Care Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Team T&D and Lesley.  Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.  Also note that after today Oahu is back to closing its beaches for the next 4 weeks, which will make seal sightings a challenge.  I know our posse is very resourceful, but we also want everyone to be safe and avoid any penalties.

Team T&D took advantage of today before the shutdown to check out Ka'ena Point. They did see Lesley in the NARS as she was heading out. Team T&D first find was RL74 Kami hiding in a new spot. Next they found Kainoa RN04. While they were IDing Kainoa they noticed a seal in the tidepool. It turned out to be RW02 PvKauai.  Last seal sighting was Ka'ena Ro40 who was chilling in BG's pool.

In the bird world the last Laysan Albatross chick was still there. They saw a couple of Wedge-tailed

shearwater chicks. But best of all they saw their first Kolea .

Team Billand arrived at a west side beach just as Melody was arriving. They walked out together and found RL70 Leina. She would be the only seal there today. She was resting in between the rocks. They noted she has two "holes" on mid back and a white nail on left flipper, three white nails on right flipper.

Team Billand did the Ka'ena West trek and again it will be a month before they can get out there again. They were happy to see RL42 Leia in her "molting" hole again. She is about 90% done, with a clean underbelly. She has a little fur left on her back area.

And once again there was her kid sunning himself on the rocks. N4 Kai was snoozing peacefully. He stretches a bit and right back to sleep in the hot sun.

Other than a couple of pigeons that was there only sightings for the day.
