August 7, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Posse pal Vicki, Tammy and Lesley. Lesley's Ka'ena update is part two of the dailies.

Posse Pal Vicki made her way up to the north shore today. Her first stop in Hauula she found a seal and a volunteer on site told her it was R5AY Honey Girl.  Problem was the critter never shows it tags.

Vicki's next stop was to visit with RL36. He is looking chubby and content.  He was snoozing and then went to forage a little bit. Then it started to rain and Vicki called it a day.

This morning Tammy headed out to spend some time with Pohaku and the Billands. Tammy got there at 6:30 and Billands were already on site,. Tammy has noted that Nanea has grown and filled out significantly since she saw her a week ago.  She stayed until the Billands headed out for their break.

Team Billand got to the pup site at 5:30 am and upon arriving they did not see the seals. It was still dark, but they were not on shore, finally they spotted them in the water exploring. They covered quite a bit of territory. At one point security arrived to rope off an area and when they arrived with the ropes Mom and pup were gone again.
Team Billand called the hotline to update.  Volunteer Melina and hubby arrived in a little bit.
Mom nursed the pup and they both fell a sleep. Maybe these two go out at night when all is quiet and no humans around, maybe that's why they sleep a lot during the day.

At 10:40 Team Billand had to head out for an appointment and they returned at 1:30.  When they
returned Pohaku and Nanea were heading over to the channel heading out of the area. They waited for about 15 minutes as they sometimes return but today they were gone. Of course Auntie Barbara was starting to get nervous.
Robert went to check a few beaches in the surrounding areas, and finally called Barbara he found them.  They landed and had a nursing session. Team Billand texted volunteer Kathy to let her know Mom and pup were safe.
It was very hot and humid today, so Team Billand called it a day. They left for the day and all was quiet. Wonder where they will explore to in the morning.
