Team Billand arrived at the pupping site at 5:30 am and it was still dark. They searched area and only found two trails going to the tree in the cove. They saw one of the workers and walked over, he turned his light on to see if the seals were on the beach, but no, no one was around.
Team Billand called the hotline to let them know they hadn't seen any seals "yet".
Soon enough volunteer arrives, they all keep searching and then, in Nanea's cove they noticed Pohaku. Sure enough there is Nanea doing exploring the cove. The waves came crashing over the rocks, so Pohaku took Nanea away from this spot and headed out to Mid Rocks.
Mom and Pup finally came in to shore, and hauled out right in the path way! The whole beach and they have to land in the worse spot.
As people started arriving wondering where the seals were.... they were thrilled to see them in the footpath. Between volunteer Karen, Robert and Barb they managed the crowd and educated the folks who had lots of questions. It's always fun talking with people who are respectable and appreciate learning about Pohaku and Nanea.
Melody and Orlando arrived and they talked seal story :-)
Team Billand had to leave at 8:15 this morning to take care of some errands. Today is day 35 so watching this little pup grow up is an amazing daily experience.
Of course on their way home Team Billand made a stop at one of the westside beaches. They found a very fat male, sleeping on the rocks alone. They were able to ID RN14 Kalani. Glad he is there not bothering Mom and Pup (then again it's still early).
Melody was on site before 7 am and met up with Team Billand and the volunteers on site. Visitors were already curious and check on Pohaku and Nanea who were in the water at the end of the footpath. There were people streaming in all morning and afternoon to visit with Mom and Pup.
Pohaku and Nanea were at the waters edge for a nursing and a nap until Pohaku decided it was swim time about 9 am. They did a couple laps around the big cove and were in the water for about 30 minutes.
At 9:40 they hauled out close to the spot they had left and had a short nursing session and rested for a bit.
10:30 Pohaku decided it was time for another swim and training session. This time they spent over an hour playing, diving, swimming and just being seals in the big cove with a couple stops to enjoy the waterfalls at Nanea's cove.
At 11:30 they hauled out again once again close to the same spot. Another short nursing session and a very long snooze. They were still snoozing at the water's edge until Melody left for the day about 3:30.
At that time Nanea was slowing rolling down the hill into the water. She's looking pretty plump and it's probably easier to roll then galumph. She is looking like a weeble (wobbles but won't fall down)
Seems as though Da Boyz gave Mom and Pup a break today. None were seen or reported. Whew.
