4/30/2016 DB's Dailies: Sadie&Pup,RG32,Kolohe,Kainoa&U/M@Rabbit Island, Cass@Spitting Cave, Pohaku@Makaha, Kekoa@Maili Pt., Rocky@Nimitz Cottages

At 0659 I found Sadie & Pup (RB12(D#3) just left of 1BS on Rabbit Island. They would later move further left. There were animals nearby in the afternoon but I saw no interactions.

At 0717 on a pan I found (RG32) at 3BS. He would be there all day.

A Hotline call from Joanne , at 0926 advise of an animal near the Sandy Beach area. After much looking around I arrived at Crappy Cove, SB, for the 2nd time, to find a wallow, and witnesses who had seen the animal early. I also spoke with the caller later and he provided inconclusive shots, and a piece of video that would later give me the Kolohe (RW22) ID. Apparently Kolohe had arrived at 0855 and departed at 0910. He would pop up again in my life , a bit later.

I got back to Makai Pier at at 1131 I found Sadie & Pup still at the left end , with Kainoa (RN04) and an U/M nearby but not interacting with Sadie. There was just too much Olivine sand on the U/M to confirm an ID. Maybe tomorrow.

On a pan down to just right of 3BS, I found RG32, and to my surprise, Kolohe (RW22) newly back from his Molokai adventure. It was not until I got home at 1630 to look at the video , that I realized that Kolohe had been the Crappy Cove animal.

At 0751 the Billands advised that there was an animal at Makaha surfing beach, and that Deb was going. It would later prove to be Pohaku (RO28). She would depart (per Deb) at 1513. Deb was an army of 1 out there today.

At 1026 Team Billand found Kekoa (RK72) at Maili Point. At 1302 call from Darlene&Todd advised that they were with Cass (RG06) at Spitting Cave. They are back to Canada on Monday. They will be missed.  Thank you Darlene and Todd !!  We appreciate your helping out on your vacation.

At 1513 the Billands advised that they had gotten a call about an animal at Nimitz Cottages. AT 1535 they confirmed the Rocky (RH58) ID.

Marilyn was slaving on campus all day, so did not do the End of the World today. Lesley had visitors and got to Hidden Beach only, but found RW02.

Aloha to all the monk seal posse members and volunteers. We appreciate all the hard work you do everyday for the monk seals...these beautiful animals are so lucky to have all of you! We feel honoured to be part of it for the month that we live here each year. We are also so grateful to DB who introduced us to the blog and for all of you making it happen so we can follow the action when we are back in Canada. We feel like we know all of you great people...keep up your hard work and dedication we know how much of a difference you make to the monk seals. We will truly miss searching for the seals! Hopefully we find some critters in the next two days....
Mahalo Nui Loa to all of you....Darlene and Todd from Canada
