Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:04 to 3:05 pm and there were eight seals seen during that time.
Initially there was Weaner Unknown 1 along the LPB channel. Later the WU1 moved up onto the rock flats and moved in the Lanikai direction. Marilyn wasn't sure if WU1 had tags and could not determine sex.
In the mid LPB rock flats was Weaner Unknown 2: weaner size, twored tags, unknown sex. This seal later moved further back on LPB.
Early on Kala RH76 and PO13 were nursing near the LPB channel. Later mom and pup entered the channel for a swim. Later they hauled out of the LPB channel near where Weaner Unknown 3 was located.
WU3 hauled out of the LPB channel at 12:10 pm soon after Marilyn arrived. WU3 has two red tags, not sure about sex. WU3 moved up the shore, but its presence seemed to perturb Kala who tried to keep herself between her pup and WU3.
Between the 1BS and 2BS a Weaner Male hauled out and moved up the shore. He played with a small branch on the beach before starting to snooze. Fortunately he showed his tags and male belly.
At 12:39 pm, a weaner female hauled out on the rock flats near SRI channel. She snoozed for a while, showed her female belly and her two red tags. Later she entered the water near the shore and she met up with another seal.
Juvenile Female, the WF met up with the JF in the water and they later hauled out together. The JF showed her light female belly and two red tags. She appears to be molting and has completed about 80% of her molt.
Team R&B arrived at the pup site and was told Rocky RH58 and PO11 had just done a rough water swim in the ocean for about 30 minutes. Needless to say they were disappointed.
Momma Rocky and PO11 were now on the reef having a nursing session. Then it was a six hour snooze. That swim must have worn them out.
Then the tide came up and Momma Rocky headed off the rocks with fatso PO11 following. They played explored the ponds, then the pup took a turn to the open ocean, waves sucking her out. Mom followed looking for the pup. Then she popped out of the water like the loch ness monster. Mom started to bark. Pup got shoved in by a big wave, landed on the rocks and started barking like crazy, which sounded like MA !!!!
Of course mom relocated and PO11 joined her, went for one last ride outside of the ponds then both headed into the driftwood area.
Volunteers quickly rearranged the zone, but the ropes got tangled. Finally ropes were untangles and finished up the zone for the night. Everyone helped out which made things go smoothly.
Mom and pup on shore for another snooze. After seven hours Team R&B called it a day.
