Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:07 to 1:52 pm and there were nine seals seen during that time.
There were eight seals seen on various parts of LPB and again trying to ID and keep all the seals sorted out is challenging.
In the back of the Lanikai side of LPB were two seals:
Adult Unknown: smaller adult size, older coat, light yellow belly, sex undetermined no info on tags.
Initially one and then a second weaner were on the Lanikai side of LPB about mid-beach:
Weaner Unknown hauled out of the LPB channel at 12:35 pm and moved up to a Weaner Male. The unknown weaner was weaner size, two red tags, no info on sex.
The Weaner Male: weaner size, at least red tags and a light male belly.
In the middle of LPB were two seals: an Adult Male and Weaner Unknown 2: adult size, older coat with some green, male belly and two red tags.
WU2 started further back on the beach then moved closer to the water: weaner size, light belly, unsure of sex, and at least two red tags.
Closer to the 1BS side of LPB was RH76 Kala and PO13. As usual, the pup headed for the water under mom's watchful eye. Mom barely moved today. Pup seems active and healthy.
Partially hidden behind a rock in the Middle Cliff area was weaner PO10, although Marilyn isn't entirely sure. Weaner size, hidden belly and no visible tags.
Team R&B first stop was at electric beach where they spotted a male seal hauled up on shore. The seal had lots of green and they were able to ID RP28 Wakea. It didn't take long for the fans to arrive. Team R&B did a recheck in the afternoon and he was gone.
They saw another seal way out at tracks. It was too difficult to get there and the seal was too far away to get an ID. Not to mention they had difficulty getting the camera to focus with the heat and waves. Seal reported as an Unknown Adult.
It took Team R&B a while to get to the pup site, in that they were checking other areas for seals. By the time they made it to the site Mom and pup were in the water exploring. The surf was rough again and Momma Rocky stayed close to PO11, at one point they tried to haul out by the waves took both of them out. The incline there is not good even for Rocky, she had difficulty galumphing up. In the end Rocky took PO11 to driftwood side and they made it out fine, so did the pup who was biting her again. Little buggah is nasty, but Momma Rocky presented and the kid nursed. The volunteer took her signs and ropes .... hmmm ????
A nice woman had rope so they used it to set up. A new volunteer arrived and put up signs further in to Mom and Pup. They told the volunteer the seals were right there by the tree.
Team R&B headed out about 2 pm, feeling somewhat frustrated. They know people come and kids go into the ponds, fishers will come to fish.
Today is day 27 and PO11 is nice and fat, Rocky starting to get thinner, but so attentive to the pup. She is a real super star mom. Team R&B has observed that whenever Rocky realizes the strength of the currents she will get close to the pup and hold her under her flipper or neck. Very smooth move Momma.
