Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:52 to 2:51 pm and there were eight seals seen during that time.
There were ultimately four seals seen on the back Lanikai side of LPB. Some of the seals had been seen on the rock flats earlier, but it was difficult to keep the seals identified because of their constant changing positions.
Two seals moved on the beach initially: Juvenile Female and Weaner Male: Later two more seals moved onto the beach. The newcomerswere another Weaner Male and a Sub-adult Female.
At 2:15 pm, the most recent weaner PO10 hauled out to the middle of LPB and moved in the 1BS direction: weaner size, darker coat, no tags. Marilyn didn't get a good view of the ventral so sex is still undetermined.
Just Lanikai side of the 1BS on the shoreline were RH76 Kala and her pup PO13 who was born yesterday afternoon. Marilyn has not seen the pup nurse, but she is only viewing for two hour window of a 24 hour period. Pup moved around mom several times. She thinks part of the umbilical cord is still attached to the pup. Both mom and pup seem fine.
About 30 feet Makapuu side of mom and pup was weaner female RV50. She moved up and down over the rocks several times. She is weaner size, light female belly and three red tags.
Team R&B arrived at the pup site and heard stories of last nights 4th of July with the mom and pup. They were worried about them with lots of the aerials going off. Mom and PO11 were in the water doing a short swim, pup was mad and kept barking at mom. She went onto the rocks for a feed. Pup kept biting mom and was very vocal the whole time. Then Mom popped her head up with mouth wide opened like she was reacting to a bite from the kid "ouch".
This kept going on, and Rocky finally entered the water and PO11 followed for a short swim.
There were fishing poles set up in this section and no signs were up.
Seals land, pup still being vocal to mom, maybe they were both nervous from all the over night fireworks.
Mom finally presented and pup settled and both fell asleep after an hour of nursing. Volunteer arrived and put out the signs and ropes, Team R&B thanked her. They need to be up. There are still fishers out there fishing and camping.
One of the news stations arrived and interviewed two ladies who were not the usual volunteers. By this time Team R&B were hot and could see Mom and pup were safely resting on shore, so they left.
