12/27/2017 Monk Seal Dailies:

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand and Posse Pal Gayle.

Team Billand out and about checking out all the shorelines along the Leeward side. While checking one of the beaches they spotted six critters swimming offshore. They studied them for hours trying to get some identifications. Amazingly they were able to ID 5 out of the 6. The boys were all fighting/playing/posturing the entire time. Two of the six RIP RR70 and PVKauai hauled out on lower rocks while the rest of them swam west. Three of them were ID'd as Kekoa RK72, Kaale RH32, Kauai Kolohe RK36 and RN14.

While Barb was concentrating on the group of critters, Rob took a ride to KoOlina and found Benny RE74, on shore. Volunteers were on site and a zone was up.

At 9:36 am RK36 Kauai Kolohe unfortunately decided to depart the other boys. He hauled out in an area with many homeless camps and dogs roaming the beach. On their next check he was gone.
Next there was RH32 Kaale on the rocks and was a further down from the homeless camps. He was resting peacefully.

RN14 finally landed with RIP and RW02 lower rocks. He is so big and has grown up since last February when Team Billand first discovered him Ka'ena side.

Kekoa RK72 came in as if he was tip toeing, looking to see who was up on the rocks. He galumphed up with RIP, RW02 and RN14. A little bit of a squabble for positions, then they all settled down for the day.

On the last check of the day all four seals remain on lower rocks snoozing this beautiful day away. Team Billand there was another seal off shore foraging, they could not ID with the sunlight being so bright.

Gayle commented the beaches were packed today (of course after a stormy day like yesterday). Anyway she spotted 2 critters on Rabbit Island. Gayle also found a critter at Lanai Lookout. No ID was given.
