12/19/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Pohaku RO28, PVKauai, Kekoa, Benny,

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand who came across seven seals today and Posse Pal Gayle who found 4 critters on Rabbit Island!

Team Billand received a call from a surfer friend to inform them a seal had just hauled out at Hau Bush. They arrived at 8:36 am and found Pohaku R028 resting on shore, right of showers. There were footprints all around her. Team Billand called the hotline.

Then it was off to Maili where they found RW02 PVKauai and Kekoa Alii RK72. The two males were on lower rocks. Team Billand didn't stay long as they were heading out to Makaha.  Off to Makaha where they found RL42 near Mr. Maladonados home. Team Billand did some catching up with an old volunteer friend out at the site and they also called the hotline.

Team Billand made their way to Makua Cliffs where they found Lei Ola RH48 below the cliffs on the rocks resting, nice and dry for the moment. They were unable to get a picture of the hook but did confirm the hook is still there after 3 months. She's looking a little thinner, most likely due to her recent molt.  Now if we can just get her to haul out on a sandy shore!

Returning to Maili they found Benny on the lower rocks with the other two males RW02 and Kekoa. All three critters were enjoying a nice sleep.

Number 7 seal was seen foraging off shore at Maili. The seal was doing seven minute dives alone and they were able to see the ding on his back and subtle bleach spot on right side, they were able to ID RIP RR70. They waited for a couple hours to see if he would haul out, but not today he was just eating.

Gayle found four critters on Rabbit Island. There were three together and one large that recently hauled up based on the tracks in the sand.
