4/15/2017 In Addition: Lesley's Kaena Point Update

Marilyn & I did our Saturday hike out to Ka’ena Pt.

At Hidden Beach, we found RN58 “Luana”, mystery seal with big scar on throat has finally been resolved. She has a dry scar in a big “U” shape with a slight bottom part doing the opposite “U”. Scar is clean and dry. When we last saw her at the point she was on her belly and it wasn’t visible, therefore we can’t say since when she has had it.

At the point we found RO40 “Ka’ena” hauled out on the reef island in the middle of the Main Pool. He was IDed by the N9 bleach, his chipped “O” tag and by his NBs.

Heading back Marilyn spotted a seal in the spot where we used to see Squinty. To our surprise, it was RK36 “Kauai Kolohe”. This charming seal has been all around lately, I have seen him 2 to 3 times a week in the past weeks and every time he has been in a totally different location!

The albatross chicks are walking around everywhere and there still a lot of adults around.

On our way back we saw 2 big separate breaches, it was perfect conditions for whale watching but those 2 were all we saw.
