12/16/2015 DB's Dailies: Duke,Kimo Kai, Kolohe,RM38,UF&U/M @ Rabbit Island, Benny@Makaha, Rocky@Nimitz Cove, Holokai@Keiki Pool, Nihoa@2nd Beach, Turtle Bay,

Rabbit Island observations were a challenge today, with strong winds, salt spray, and overcast conditions. When I arrived at 0658 I found what would prove to be Duke (RA12)&Kimo Kai (RT12) at the log, 40 ft left of 1BS and a D#2, 10% molted RM38 in the vegetation right of 3BS.

I got back to Makai Pier for round #2 at 0824 and noticed a new find, in the Morning Glory, 10 ft left of 3BS. After a day of observations all I can say is that it was a female with 2 red tags, and a newish coat. Despite a full day of observation I could find no markers to confirm an ID.

Just few minutes later, at 0832 on a routine pan I found a juvenile sized male at Rocky Right Beach. I think this animal has been at this location two previous times. I have had difficulty before trying to decide if it is Cass or somebody else. I’m reasonably sure I saw a male belly, but ???????

At 0853 what would prove to be Kolohe (RW22) hauled out to 1BS, and galumphed up to join Kimo Kai & Duke in the Morning Glory. All three would later relocate to the far left end of the beach, where they remained the rest of the day.

At 0939 Ocean Safety called with the report of an animal fronting Clausmyers, Makaha. The Billands would confirm the Benny (RE74). They were a two man army all day, with the usual number of clueless. Benny would relocate further down the beach, requiring a new SPZ. Benny was gone on their 1700 recheck.

A Melanie text at 1500 advised that she had found Holokai (RG40) at the Keiki Pool on her arrival at 1415. He had apparently been there all day.

At 1700 another text from Melanie advised that she had found another animal a 2nd Beach. A reliable source advised her that it was Nihoa (R912), by her 2 LFF white nails. Awaiting Melanie’s shots.

An 1815 call from Team Billand advised that they had responded to a Dana Text of an animal at Nimitz Cove, at 1750. When they arrived at 1815 they found Rocky (RH58) !!
