April 30, 2025 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn, Tammy and Team  R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:14 to 2:02 pm and only the moms and pups were seen during her observations.
When she arrived PO3 was nursing on MO3 along the water line of LPB. Later they moved up and PO3 had another feed. At 1:34 pm, mom and pup entered the water and were still there when Marilyn left.
RF34 Pua and PO4 were in the nearshore waters between 3BS and SRI when Marilyn started viewing. Several times she saw the pup trying to nurse on mom in the water. That always seems to be difficult. Pua and PO4 hauled out about
1:30 pm. PO4 seemed to be trying to get Pua to roll over so it could nurse. When Pua finally did present to the pup, the kid moved up and around her head then went behind her. Go figure? lol
Both moms still look plump and healthy and the pups are both putting on weight.

Tammy beings us news from Molokai where she is visiting. (Lucky)  She hiked with posse pal Liz and they found four seals. The first was a little female RS04. They found another seal in the shallows. They had sit for a while before he rolled over. This male is a new seal to Liz, so
they reported him as an Unknown Male. (hopefully someone from NOAA will recognize him).  The third seal they found at the turn around point, a male RI13. He is one of the oldest seals on Molokai and most likely on the main Hawaiian Islands.  Lastly they found a seal on the way back. It was RO4M a male one of the pups born at Kalaupapa.  Just to put the icing on the cake they got to see a couple of whales breaching.

Team R&B arrived at Kahe and spent some time watching the
dolphins at play. There were so many people out in the water with them. Then out of nowhere they spotted a seal with the pod. The seal never landed, but they believe its an adult with a green snout. They lost sight of it before they could determine anything else so it was reported as an Unknown Adult.

On their early check at Pokai there were no seals, lots of fish but no seals.
Upon their late check of the same area there were still no seals, leaving them wondering where the heck are all the seals?  Then a seal showed up and hauled into seal inlet. They saw the fishing line and knew it was RH32 Kaale. He didn't stay, just came in, rolled around then turned and left the area.

April 29. 2025 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:36 to 2:20, in between the rain showers.
When she first started viewing she saw MO3 and PO3 in the nearshore waters. They finally hauled out at 2:17 pm, just before Marilyn left due to more rain. Mom and pup seem fine. PO3 is definitely getting bigger. They obviously swam for at least 45 minutes.
RF34 Pua and PO4 have moved in the Makapuu direction and today were between 3BS and SRI. Both mom and pup appear healthy. Marilyn viewed one nursing session.

Team R&B arrived at pokai and found RM31 Kai on the rocks near the "zen" area. They were hoping to see Miss Kala,  but not today.

While they were out checking different areas, they got a call of a seal hauled out at plains. When they arrived the seal was resting close to shoreline with signs and ropes up. They were able to ID RN14 Kalani.

They had spent time looking for the hooked boobie from yesterday.
They never saw it anywhere, but did talk with the lifeguards at yoks to let them know to keep an eye out.
Before they headed out they spotted two seals. One was RP30 Puka. The other seal was sleeping in a shallow pond. They had nothing to go on, didn't know if it was a female or male, no tags seen, no scars seen. They tried for a long time, but in the end it being reported as an Unknown Unidentified.

April 28, 2025 Monday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:09 to 1:45 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
MO3 and her pup PO3 were in the water when she arrived and did not haul out until 1:13 pm. They moved up from the LPB surge channel. PO3 nursed and they both seem to be doing fine.
Down from the 3BS were RF34 Pua and her pup PO4. Marilyn think they may have just hauled out after a swim. A short distance away was an Adult Female. At first Pua went after the AF. The AF then moved away. Marilyn did not see much activity from Mom and pup, but  booth seem fine.
The Adult Female was smaller adult size, golden female belly and two tags. Marilyn did not get a good view of the ventral neck area so she doesn't know if this is the female with the neck scar.

Team R&B had another slow seal day. Their only find was at Maili where there were two seals. Kai RM31 was with R617 at seal inlet resting.

They spotted a boobie sitting on the water and when they went to photograph it, there was a big fishing lure stuck to its beak and neck. They were so saddened to see this and followed him for an hour up and down the coast. He kept flying low landing in the water, then the rocks, then to the guard rail. They tried but weren't able to help it. Sooooo sad.

April 27, 2025 Sunday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:18 to 1:50 today and only the mom and pup pairs were there.
MO3 (presumably Sadie RB12) and PO3 were on the surge channel side of LPB. At about 12:30 pm, they entered the water. They swam around for 50 minutes before hauling back out. Marilyn saw PO3 do one feed. Both mom and pup seem healthy.
When Marilyn first arrived there was a boat offshore of the 3BS and
RF34 and her pup PO4 were in the water. The people in the boat were obviously taking video of the mom and pup. Because of foreshortening it was hard to tell how close they were. Pua kept a close eye on the boat until it left.  When Pua and pup hauled out they moved up the shore and went into snooze mode. Marilyn did not see a nursing session, but they seem to be doing just fine.

Team R&B had a very slow seal day. Makes you wonder where do they all go. They found two seals at Maili both resting on high rocks. There was their lovely RH76 Kala in the company of RM31 Kai.
Kala was a little restless today, flipping from one side to another. She then slid down to the shallow pond at seal inlet.
