01/19/2021 Tuesday Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.

Team Billand observed five seals in the outfall, they were Ka'ale RH32, Aukai RL12, RN14 Kalani and R407 Kawika. Lefty RG28 was out there alone just outside the outfall.

After running some errands Team Billand was back on the beaches. They found R407 Kawika alone hauled out at beach near the outfall. He is looking good and healthy. From there they could see from a distance two seals at tracks and some people close by, so they hurried over.

When they arrived they found Aukai RL12 hauled up high on shore by the bath house. Kaale RH32 was

also there but away from Aukai. One of the surf photographers walked up to Aukai, and despite Team Billand trying to get his attention he waved them off. Aukai reacted by waking up and barking at the guy, he kept filming. Aukai got up and rushed into the water, and the photographer just watched. Aukai tried to come in again but a guy and a woman stood in fron of her preventing her from coming in, so she turned around and left the site. Team Billand called the hotline and filled them in.

Team Billand arrived at another west side location and found a new visitor. They ID'd a female and a tag 1KN. Checking in with the posse they found out this is a female from Kauai born in Feb 2017. She has CC scars on her chest area, natural bleach mark on right side of body, scar on hind flippers, and has a separation in the left fore flipper. She was resting on shore comfortably. They also found Mr. Kekoa RK72 at the site, he was alone snoozing on lower rocks. There was a fisherman but he wasn't bothering Kekoa at all.

Team Billand went back to check on Kaale and to see if Aukai had

returned. When they arrived there was Aukai and Ka'ale. They saw a seal at electric beach but by the time they got there the seal left.

On a recheck of Kawika R407, he was still there snoozing alone and okay.

And finally Team Billand made their way to the bay. They found RN44 and Lei Ola RH48 next to each other snoozing on the rocks. They were doing just fine. Nalu R3CX was foraging doing 5 minute dives. He was alone near the jetty.

Aukai
