12/21/2018 Monk Seal Dailies (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Lesley and Melody. Part two of the dailies is Lesley's complete Ka'ena Update.

Team Billand came across two animals foraging off shore on the Leeward side. They watched for two solid hours while they are and fought with each other.  They tried to get some ID but it was a challenge. Then as luck would have it one seal started to come to shore, finally a chance to get an ID.  At first Barb read the tag as H46 and unfamiliar with the tag.....
She noticed some natural bleach marks, then she was able to confirm the tag was actually N46 and that would be KEA!!! Natural bleach on hind flippers, RFF and left FF. What a surprise!  Barbara mentioned how excited DB would be on a find like this. It goes without saying that we all can hear his voice on days like today.
Team Billand wasn't able to get a positive ID on the other seal foraging, the only clue was an applied bleach that was difficult to read.

Later in the afternoon at a different west side beach Team Billand spotted RN14 Kalani on high rock. There was a second critter next to him, but they could not get a good read on who it was. They did not think it was Kaale because there was no marker above his RFF. They really aren't sure who it is BUT suspect in might be RIP RR70.
Kalani RN14 quickly moved forward like he was going to .... well throw up. And in fact he did three times. It was mostly bile, small fish bones and maybe some worms (which is totally normal for seals). After losing his lunch he left the site and went off shore.  The second critter remained (who might be RIP).

Melody sent word that the lovely Miss Rocky spent an absolutely wonderful peaceful day at the
beach. Melody first checked on Rocky before 6:30 am and she must have over nighted it. She was peaceful and stayed up by the morning glories for several hours. About mid morning she decided to move down to the waterline.  Melody thought based on Rocky's behavior she would be leaving soon, but she remained at 1:00. Melody left for a bit to take care of some things and when she returned at 2:30 Rocky was still there snoozing (loudly) in the exact same spot. There were no foot prints or disturbances anywhere. Melody left again and this time returned at 4:30 and Rocky was still there.
A few folks came out at sunset and were thrilled to see her and just when Melody thought she might spend the night again, Rocky slowly made her way into the water. Heading west it looked like she might be diving for some dinner.
