January 9, 2026 Friday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:03 to 1:58 pm and there were two seal seen during that time.
The two seal were together between 3BS and SRI:
Adult Male: adult size, gray male belly, not sure about tags. This might be RK24 Bruno, but Marilyn just didn't have enough to call it.
Juvenile Female: juvenile size, (probably 2025 pup), older coat, yellow female belly, no info on tags.
There were several dozen Red-tailed Tropic Birds flying around Rabbit Island. Marilyn hasn't seen other birds which is aa little surprising.

Team R&B started their day after a morning appointment. They headed over to pipes and not one seal seen, no turtles but they saw the dolphins. Then after almost two hours they spotted seals foraging.
They ID'd RL08, thought maybe Aukai RL12 was out there too. There was one unknown with an applied bleach, but they didn't have enough to make an ID.

Over by the outfall they saw a seal thinking it was Lei Ola, but the seal was too small. They believe this seal is RS32.
The dolphins came in then headed west.

Checking out Kahe initially didn't see anything. They were just about ready to give up but made one last look. Ta da! they was a small seal. It was their boy, RP28 Wakea. He was alone and resting like a little king.
He was still out there later in the day and alone when they went back to recheck.
They noted his hind flippers he has a scar on his ankle that confirmed his ID, and his natural bleach on top neck area, sealed the deal :-)

Later in the day they spotted whales and looked to be a mom and calf. They surfaced, spouted but no breaching for over an hour. Traffic was slow so they just stayed an watched.

Their last stop of the day was at plains. They spotted a seal on shore full of sand with red tags. Finally when the seal flipped they saw that it was R3CX Nalu. He finally left Pokai and was probably here looking for females.  He seems to be doing just fine.
