In yesterdays news wildlife enthusiast Connie from Indiana. She saw another seal southeast of Kahuku Point. Judging by its size, it's possible it is the same one from the day before. She was unable to get a clear shot of its tags. My guess from the belly shot is this little one is a female.
Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:47 to 1:52 pm and there were four seals seen during that time.
Initially there were three and a fourth hauled out later.
About 40 feet Lanikai side of the 2BS were two seals next to each other:
Nearby was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size older coat, light yellow female belly, at least one red tag.
Between 3BS and SRI, closer to 3BS was a Juvenile Female 1: juvenile size, light yellow female belly, no info on tags. This is likely RU70.
At 12:25 pm Juvenile Female 2: was found hauled out from the SRI channel. JF2 was larger than JF1, older coat, yellowish brown female belly and two red tags. Marilyn believes this could be RU38.
Team R&B first stop was at pokai where they found the lovely Miss Kala RH76. It looked like she had just hauled out, breathing fast, and then calmed down. She went into snooze mode for the rest of their visit.
They checked out the outfall. Today was sunny, waves were huge and no one in the water due to poor visibility, big waves and strong currents.
It took them quite awhile to locate the seals from afar. They saw one adult which turned out to be RL20 He kept to the outfall area and by the surfers. They were lucky to get a tags shot from so far away.
The other seal had a darker coat, seemed small, but they just couldn't get any photos of it for an ID. The only thing they could determine it was sub-adult size with a dark coat.
They were out there for three hours and no seals hauled out during that time. They also noted they didn't see any whales, or dolphins today.
