November 22, 2023 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 11:48 to 1:52 and there were five seals on island during that time.
At 12:07, a Juvenile Female seal hauled out about 60 feet of the 1BS. JF: juvenile size, newer coat, light gray female belly and unsure about tags.
Just as Marilyn had arrived two seals were hauling out at Middle Cliff:
R606: sub-adult male, newer coat, not tags, light gray male belly and nb on his RFF. He looks healthy and robust.  Marilyn first saw him over a year ago on Rabbit Island at RRB. He has also been seen at Ka'ena Point sometime in 2022.
Hauling out behind R606 was an Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, newer coat, light gray ventral side and two tags.
Down from 3BS were two seals:
Adult Female: adult size, newer coat, light gray female belly and two red tags. She appears to have a jagged line scar on her upper chest.
Female Weaner: weaner size, older coat, brownish-green female belly and two red tags.

Team R&B started out early on this crazy pre-holiday morning. They arrived and waited for the seals where they have been everyday, but not one seal was on shore. After watching a couple of trucks come into the area they decided to leave the site.
From afar they looked back and now there were three seals hauling out where they just left.  They hurried back to find:
RN14 Kalani who they haven't see in quite awhile. Next to him was his bosom buddy Kaale RH32. (double trouble).
Closer up was RL20 Kalua who is about 40% molted.
They called the hotline and fingers crossed the campers will respect the seals.

On their next stop they spotted a seal in the outfall, they didn't know who it was and wasn't able to make an ID. They left the area.
They arrived at Kahe and there on the rocks was a fat, green male and couldn't see tags. They waited for some movement but the seal just slept. Finally the seal turned to the right and that when they realized it was RK72 Kekoa Alii, the seal from reef runway.!  He is huge!  They saw his signature scar on the right side of his face, and the little bumps on the left side of his back.

At another west side location they found a seal snoozing. They had to wait a bit but finally a flipper flex and they could see his tags RM31/M30 Kai.  He was a lone and just resting.

After the past few days of a crowded beach they were hesitant to go to yoks, especially with all the disturbances. But they went (of course they did). Once again there was RG28 Lefty looking quite handsome
with his brand new coat.
There was a woman who just stood next to him looking at him.  Then the lifeguard came running over with signs. Timing was good because there was a group of tourist all excited heading toward the seal. Signs were up just in time.
