8/13/2017 Monk Seal Dailies: Luana, Ka'ena, RN14, Ka'ale, Benny, Pohaku, & UU

Today's Dailies are brought to you by Lesley, Team Billand and Marilyn.  Also there is a link to a video posted by Civil Beat on Kaimana playing with an adult seal. Glad she found another seal to play with.

Lesley was up and out early morning and made a trek to Ka'ena Point. Seems today was a good day for the fishing community to be out there doing some serious fishing. Lesley's first find was RN58 Luana on the waterline at hidden beach. She was there overnight based on her trail was all the way up the beach to her favorite spot under the milo trees.  She was still there on Lesley's way out.

Lesley arrived at the point just in time to see RO40 Ka'ena hauling out at Back Beach. He was very alert sniffing the air, took him forever to settle down.

Marilyn found two seals on Rabbit Island. One adult one juvenile both will have to be go as unidentifiable/unknown UU.  She was sure Kolohe nor Aka were there.

Team Billand once again found RN14 at Paradise Cove, he did his swim right and left of the cove, and finally landed on the Luau side of the Lagoon. Everyone was on their best behavior and gave RN14 plenty of room. He left the lagoon at 7:53 am. Hotline was notified.

Next they hurried to Kahe just in time for RN14 hauling out and Ka'ale RH32 was already on site up on the rocks. RN14 galumphed toward Ka'ale who wasn't happy with his arrival and galumphed away. He went as far inland as he could and of course RN14 was in pursuit landing right next to him.

Team Billand stopped by Campbells, where the surf was high and wild.... but that didn't stop Barb from noticing a seal foraging about 300 ft away. Seal will be ID'd as a UU. They received a call about two seals at White Plains.

Team Billand arrived at White Plains and found two seals in front of a cabin. One seal was there at dark and the other came up at 8:30 am. Seals were ID'd as Pohaku (RO28) and Benny (RE74).

Both seals were resting peacefully no one bothering them. Team Billand left them at 3:00 pm, they notified lifeguards they were leaving and seals remained with no one around.

Oh and Barbara sent a late photo, claiming she found Rocky while on the road :-)  LOL.
