6/21/2017 DB's Dailies: Aka@Rabbit Island, Right Spot@Makapuu Bch, RN14@Kahe Pt, Ka'ale@Maili, R3CU&Ka'ena@Ka'ena Pt, RI37@Kuilima

I arrived at Makai Pier at 0800 but could find nobody one end to the other, as well as checking the left end shallows amongst the rocks. At 0925 I spied my first dome amongst the shallows rocks. It would turn out to be Aka, moving thru the rocks and finally coming up to the sand for a snooze. That was the RI day.

Just as I was passing Makapuu Beach I happened to get a call from Ocean Safety (Life Guards) reporting an animal newly arrive down blow the highway above the Makapuu LG stand. I advised that they should call the Hotline, but I would make the call now. It turned out to be Right Spot (R016). I notified the HMMA Hotline .

At 0616 Team Billand advised that a vocalized RN14 had just departed Paradise Cove.

They confirmed at 0640 that they would find RN14 again as they thought would be the plan, at Kahe Pt.

Tammy & Dave did their Ka’ena Point trek this morning. They reported R3CU on the Back Beach, at 0702.

Sadly, the also reported finding two dead Shearwaters. Unfortunately, one was decapitated. They notified DOCARE personnel, who came out to retrieve the birds, DOCARE is believed that a Barn Owl problem are believed to be the predators.

At 0832 T&D also advised of an U/U but couldn’t get an ID. Tammy & Dave’s shots are certain to be Ka’ena (RO40) shots at BG’s Pool, but his N9 bleaches, forehead NB and his spot on his back. Thank job !!

Thanks to Vicki Hangai from her shots of RI37 at Kuilima today.
