September 23, 2019 Monk Seal Dailies

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand.  Seems like their day is back to being busy with multiple sightings.

Team Billand went to check on Nalani RH92 at 6 am. She was in the same location by some construction work. Sure enough she was there, so Team Billand called the hotline and left a message. Since it was still early and no one was around, Team Billand had to leave to run some errands.

They returned at 10:30 to recheck on her, and she had moved higher up and the construction crew was on site working. Nalani didn't seem to be bothered by them at all.  Volunteer Melina came by and along with Team Billand observed RH92. It began to rain so they left the site.

At 11:30 they returned to do another recheck and Nalani was still there doing okay.
Their last and final check of the day came at 4 pm during the heavy rains.. Nalani had moved even higher up now against the wall.  The construction crew had packed it up for the day.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.

At 6:30 am Team Billand observed two seals foraging int he outfall. Not like Ka'ale foraging, these two were doing deep dives.  The first seal foraging in the outfall was ID'd as Benny based on his head scars. The other seal was reported as an U/U, smooth coat, but nothing to make an ID.

In the early morning after finding Nalani and checking the outfall,
Team Billand made a couple of stops and found Pohaku RO28.  She is looking good, putting on weight, looking thicker than the last time they saw her.
Team Billand put the zone up,  and called the hotline.
Everyone was happy to see her back at plains. They were also surprised to hear she had given birth on July 19th.
Pohaku moved higher up just before Team Billand left the site.  They don't know if any volunteers arrived at the site.

At 9:25 am Team Billand spotted a seal that took them a bit to ID.  What threw them was they knew RN14 Kalani was on Molokai, but after a lot of studying this critter, they confirmed RN14 is back on Oahu. He was sleeping in the shallow pond.
He is looking magnificently huge and in great shape nice and healthy. ( of course he's in shape he just went to Molokai and back in record time).

At 10 am Team Billand found RG28 "lefty" on the rocks enjoying a snooze on his own. HE is Pohaku's son from 2015, and he has a lot of cookie scars just like his mom.
