November 30, 2023 Thursday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:04 to 3:08 and there were nine seals on island during that time.
A group of three seals on the 1BS side of LPB:
Unknown Adult: adult size, newer coat, pit scar above right shoulder, unknown sex or if there were tags.
RG32: adult size, old coat, didn't see belly or rear flippers but the coat looked shaggy behind the RFF. He was originally hidden behind the UA.
Next to RG32 was an Unknown Juvenile: juvenile size, new coat, lighter ventral did not see full ventral
or rear flippers.
Initially up in the dunes on the Makapuu side of 1BS was an Adult Male: adult size, newer coat, gray male belly and two red tags. Not long before Marilyn left he had moved down out of the dunes on LPB.
At middle cliff was a Sub-adult Male: sub-adult size, newer coat, light male belly and two red tags.
Up in the dunes near the 3BS were two seals:
Adult Female: adult size, older coat, tan-gray female belly and at least one red tag.
Nearby was an Unknown Sub-adult: sub-adult size, newer coat, did not see ventral side or if there were tags.
Between 3BS and SRI was (possibly) RK24 Wawamalu/Bruno: adult size, newer coat, light gray male belly and two red tags, anda scar on the right rear side.
Barely visible out at RRB was an Unknown Weaner:: weaner size, yellow belly and two red tags.

Team R&B spent a lot of time searching and finally they found a seal at tracks. It was R3CX up near the vines snoozing peacefully.
They were thrilled to see the dolphins out !
In addition the doves were on the rocks eating and kitty cat was stalking them. Oh the things they see.
After a while RL20 Kalua arrived and joined Nalu up by the greenery.
Unfortunately they were not able to rest peacefully once a woman and her dog arrived and walked by the seals. One seal hurried away from the dog and the other seal postured.  The woman wasn't concerned and continued looking for shells.

Team R&B had left the site and made it back to check on how the seals were doing.  The shell woman also returned with her dog. Team R&B couldn't take it so they called out to her to watch out for the seals. The woman's response...... Oh I never saw them there..... REALLY????

November 29, 2023 Wednesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to by Team R&B💕  And yes despite the pouring rain they were out there.

They started off at the bay waiting in the car while it was pouring. After an hour they got tired of waiting and went to take a look. There high up was RL20 Kalua.
They also spotted a pig carcass floating off the rocks.... poor thing.

They made other stops still while it was raining, still no seals and only rain.  The mountains were beautiful and there were waterfalls in the valley.
At one of the sites two dogs came running at them barking. They had to jump the guard rail to keep them away. Dangerous elements all the way around.

Lastly from afar they spotted a dirt bike driving on shore and then noticed a monk seal galumphing toward the water.
They studied the seal but it was too far to make and ID, so it was reported as an Unknown Adult.
Then they scanned the horizon and spotted two whales, but it was a quick sighting.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

November 28, 2023 Tuesday's Dailies

Todays dailies are brought to you by Marilyn and Team R&B💕

Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 12:40 to 2:05 and there were four seals during that time.
Alone on LPB was an Unknown Weaner: weaner size and two red tags. It never showed its ventral side but it is most likely female.
There were three seals in a relatively small area by the 1BS, they were:
Sub-adult Male 1: sub-adult to small adult size, newer coat, molted
gray male belly and two red tags. There was a scar on the right rear side, so this could be RK24.
Nearby was Sub-Adult Male 2: sub-adult to small adult size, new coat, very light male belly and two red tags.
A short distance away was RG32: adult male, mostly old coat with lots of green, dark brown male belly and a scar above the right eye. His molt looks to be about 5% with lots of breaks in the fur on his upper chest.

Team R&B hurried out this morning to check on the seals before the rains hit hard. They started at the bay and found Kala RH76 foraging off the rocks.
When they went back later in the day after the rain stopped she had hauled out. Kala RH76 was alone looking beautiful as usual.

On their first check by electric beach they didn't see any seals. After they drove off and looked at the area from another location they saw a big seal was on shore. So of course they went back and there was RN14 Kalani. It appears he's going to molt sometime soon.

Next they went and rechecked tracks and this time spotted two seals at the site.
There was Kaale RH32 moving up the beach to meet Kalua RL20. They sniffed, whooped, sniffed again and then the two settled in.

One last stop at yoks, there were no seals. Team R&B were shocked to see all the sand that had covered the road.  It's going to get interesting as this weather system moves through.  BE careful out there!
