Marilyn finally was able to view Rabbit Island today, since the wind and waves have subsided some. She viewed from 1:36 to 3:15 pm and there were five seals seen during that time.
On the 1BS side of LPB was a Sub-adult Female: sub-adult size, brownish gold female belly and two red tags.
A short distance on the Makapuu side of 1BS was Adult Male 1: adult size, old brown coat on the dorsal, about 30% molted with new fur on the upper ventral, male belly, no info on tags. He later moved up into the dunes. She could see his earlier tracks up and down the shore on the sand.
Adult Male 2: adult size, newer coat, gray male belly, pit scar on upper mid dorsal. The seal appeared to have a single gray tag which is puzzling.
Next to AM2 was another adult male that Marilyn believes to be RK24 Bruno: adult size, newer coat, gray male belly, two red tags and scar on right rear side.
Down from 3BS was an Unknown Adult: adult size, brown coat, two red tags, apparently beginning to molt about 15%. Because of the sand Marilyn could not decide on the seal's sex.
Team R&B first find this morning were two seals foraging. They ID'd R3CX Nalu with RM31 Kai.
They were just about to leave the area and they decided to look around just one more time. Well lucky they did because there on the rocks was little RU04. She was snug as a bug in the rocks.
Once again they spotted two seals foraging off the outfall. Based on the descriptions its the same two Unknowns as yesterday. One was an Adult with green on its coat and the other was an Adult with a clean coat. They were not able to get any additional information today.
Next they headed over to check on the Unknown Mystery Molter. He was still on shore and nearly finished with his molt. He moved from the lower part to the upper rocks and well hidden. They still aren't sure who this is, thought maybe R617, as they spotted a split on the hind flipper, but other than tat they're just not sure.
From there they back tracked to recheck a couple of spots. They spotted a seal hauling out when they arrived. It was RL20 Kalua, he was very cautious and headed up on the rocks.
From afar they saw two seals resting onshore at Makaha. The smaller one had a nice coat and the other was larger adult. Before they could determine anything else the smaller seal entered the water and the larger one followed. They suspect the duo was R3CX and RM31.
