November 20, 2025 Thursday - Yesterday & Todays News

Yesterday as Marilyn was heading home from grocery shopping she decided to make a quick stop at an eastside location to check for seals. Sure enough she spotted a seal tucked into a gap in the rock. Marilyn couldn't stay because of her groceries, but Gamma Gayle was there. She was watching over and ID'd RK24 Bruno. (this didn't make last nights post because Marilyn had a power glitch).

Today Marilyn got a text from a colleague at Kewalo Marine Lab, that there was a monk seal in the area. So Marilyn decided to go check it out.

She saw the seal several times on the Diamond Head side of the channel. Then she moved up to take photos from 12:25 to 12:49 pm. The seal was now on the Ewa side of the channel making several dives, then moved across the channel and ended up again on the Diamond Head side. Marilyn believes the seal to be an adult, possible scar over the right eye and at least one tag. She could not make a positive ID. There is a possibility it could be RH92 based on feedback Marilyn received.

Team R&B started their day at the bay where there were seals foraging. The first one to be identified was the handsome RM31 Kai. Later in the afternoon they saw him hauled out at the "zen" area.

Next there was RG32 who spent most of his time going after RH48 Lei Ola. He is for sure persistent. Meanwhile RH48 Lei Ola continued foraging.

They also spotted Nalu R3CX busy foraging. Later in the day he had hauled out.

Then there was RL20 Kalua who originally was at a different location. He made his way over in the corner, looked around and then hauled up on the rocks.

Next stop they thought there were two seals, but when they arrived there was just one. It was RP28 Wakea resting on shore.

Before leaving they made another check and finally there was the second seal with RP28, It was little RI40. They noted his mouth looked a little raw, but closer looks shows a leaf was stuck to its mouth all good. Wakea was still there but moved up a little.
