They started their day like most of their days at Pokai. They spotted a seal foraging doing 5 minute dives. While watching this seal they noticed a large cc wound on its lower back. The wound is new at the most a couple of days old. They were able to ID RG28 Lefty, although they couldn't tell if he still had a hook. They hung out for over an hour but he never hauled out.
They first spotted a seal by the lifeguard and a surfer near the outfall, but the seal took off. Then about a half hour later a seal hauled up on shore at tracks. The beach was super busy today and Team R&B wasn't able to find parking.
So they watched from afar, the poor seal was amongst all the people. A small crowd gathered by the seal, and a small child went up close to him. Even with adults around the kid got close. More folks gathered for a closer look. Team R&B couldn't do anything but be annoyed. They were able to determine the seal was RH32 Kaale.
While looking out over the waters they noticed two bottles out in the water. They informed the lifeguard who was aware of it. Then they noticed the bottles moving fast heading in a westerly direction. The lifeguard went to check it out and thankfully he did. Just below the surface was a turtle entangled in a line attached to the bottles. He cut the lines to free the turtle. There were two other guys then went out to help, pulled the bottles out with a lot of thick fishing line.
The surf was going off on the north and west sides. The Eddie Aikau Big Wave competition was on today at Waimea.
On the west side Team R&B got to see some amazing sights. At yoks there was a large tree getting tossed in the waves. Lifeguard estimated the waves at Ka'ena West must be at least 30 feet.
