8/12/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1) RH32, RN14, RO28, RE74, Rabbit Island Party of Seven

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Marilyn, Melody and Lesley. Lesley's complete update is part 2 of the dailies.

Bright and early this morning Team Billand went to the outfall and spotted two seals. Confirmed RH32 Ka'ale and then RN14 Kalani. They fought near the jetty and then Kalani left. Ka;ale continued scoping the area, finding his own fish and not getting himself into trouble.
The fishermen had a good day too, they were all out there catching some pretty big catch.
Team Billand left for a while and returned in the afternoon. Ka'ale was still foraging and going up and down the coast.
Team Billand found RN14 Kalani at a nearby beach alone and resting. He's pretty green and looking quite comfortable. They rechecked on him later and he was in the small water hole, still snoozing and alone.

Team Billands next find was the beautiful but skinny Miss Pohaku RO28. She was on shore backing in the sun, alone and at peace. There were signs up that the lifeguards had posted, Team Billand added some ropes. At one point Pohaku raised her head looking as if someone was coming.
And then this happened.... While they were talking with folks about
Pohaku Team Billand noticed a blob bobbing up and down coming in. It was good ole Benny, and he was on a mission, he came in so fast, folks gathered at the site.  Team Billand called the hotline twice to inform them of each seal. Benny had words with Pohaku, the interaction priceless. Team Billand educated folks until a volunteer arrived.
As it turns out Melody stopped by the site on her way home today and had a brief visit with the lovely couple.

On the other side of the Island, Mrs. Whisperer had another bumper crop day. Marilyn viewed Rabbit Island from 1:30 - 4:30 this afternoon. There was a lot of activity and moving around. She spotted a minimum of seven seals. Two seals that she only saw for a few minutes in front of the 1BS when she arrived and then entered the water are possible suspects that she saw later.

#1 - UM adult size, older coat, 2 tags, male belly; spent all 3 hours on Left Point Beach with seal #2 UU.
#2 - UU adult size (larger than seal #1) older coat, 2 tags, never got a good look at the belly. Possibly a female because of the protective behavior exhibited by seal #1.  Seal #2 spent all three hours on
Left Point Beach, moving up and down to cool off.
#3 - RG32 subadult size, 2 tags, applied N32 bleach, male belly; spent all three hours near seal rock inlet. Was visited by Seals #5 #6 and #7.
#4 Weaner PO6, weaner size and coloration; natural bleach on left rear side, no tags; only saw PO6 from about 2:12 -2:25 out of the left point rock flats.
#5 J/F Juvenile female; light female belly, 2 tags; hauled out to RG32 near seal rock inlet at 2:48. She tried to get RG32 attention, but he ignored her. She ended up pursued by RW22 until he took off after seal #7. She covered a lot of distance on shore, moving toward the 3BS, then up into the morning glory and then she entered the water and joined #6 RW22 and #7 at the middle cliff area.
#6 RW22 Kolohe, adult male, older coat, saw at least part of 1 tag, natural bleach behind RFF. Kolohe hauled out to RG32 and #4 near seal rock inlet. Ended up
interacting with RG32, #5 and #7.
#7 J/M juvenile male, light male belly (a partial CC scar on the left midbelly area that is similar to 1KT's scar). 2 tags, seems like a newer coat. This could be R1KT, He joined the 3 seals at the seal rock inlet. He had several spats with seals #1 and #2. Seal #1 UM made it clear he was not welcome.
