3/10/2018 Monk Seal Dailies: (part 1)

Today's dailies are brought to you by Team Billand, Gayle, Marilyn and Lesley.

Team Billand found Kekoa RK72 on a Leeward Beach on high rock resting alone. He turned and there was his bleach N2 and facial scar showing.  Kekoa is looking very healthy, his coat was dry and brown in color. Team Billand included Olivia today so they didn't stay too long.

Next stop a Westside Beach where they found a critter all the to the right alone in the corner resting. This was the same place as yesterday's U/M "mystery seal" , Barbara spotted two markings on neck and then he flips to the other side and see a ding on his back and a tag shot. Olivia actually made the ID on the tag since Barbara didn't have her glasses.  Olivia is taking her seal searching duties very serious these days and uses her own binoculars. ( I love this kid, she is going to do great things )
They ID'd RW02 PvKauai, he is looking healthy and also had a dry brown coat. (Seems the winds were drying these critters off today)

Last stop for Team Billand another westside beach where they spotted Miss Lei Ola RH48, basking in the warm sun with the chilly winds blowing. Her hook was showing today and she on occasion rubbed the area. Other than that she is showing no signs of stress, sleeping and stretching.
There was a film crew from Japan on site and started filming Lei Ola. They wanted to know why her belly was so white, so Barbara did her best to explain and a little Lei Ola history as well as monk seal 101. She's going to be a star.... in Japan.

Gayle sent word there was one critter on Rabbit Island today, but there were no photos attached. Maybe it was an oversight or she didn't get any today.  But Gayle said there was one there, and I believe her. :-)

Marilyn did the Ka'ena Point Trek today with Lesley (full report in part 2). They arrived at 9 am and found Rip RR70 and Aukai RL12 hanging out together. Here's an interesting factoid: Both critters were born on Rabbit Island, RIP 2003 ( mom was Irma) and Aukai 2013 (mom was M&M).  Continue with part 2 for the rest of the update.
